Yaeko Kogure’s marriage engagement is broken off by her fiancé just as she resigns from her job amid congratulations. Standing stunned in a shopping mall, she hears Bach’s “Air on the G String” playing nearby, and it moves her to overcome her setback by taking up the violin. She joins a class with a college student, Rihito Kase, and a homemaker, Yukie Kitagawa, and things are looking up again. But neither the violin nor human relations come smoothly. And she must get her priorities straight. Will it be romance? Love? Friendship? Yaeko attends a matchmaking party where she is paired with the straitlaced but sincere Keiichi. Meanwhile, Yukie, who has stopped taking violin lessons to look after her mother-in-law, invites Rihito and Yaeko to join her for a rehearsal. Yaeko is excited about the reunion but then Keiichi asks her out on a date the same day.

Rihito is busy with his university studies, Yukie is helping her daughter prepare for school exams, and Yaeko has gone back to work. Meanwhile, their teacher, Mao, who has been getting medical treatment, quits the music school and drops out of contact. Yaeko asks Rihito to go check on her, then realizes her own true feelings.

Yaeko realizes she has deep feelings for Rihito. Pouring out her heart to Yukie, she breaks down in tears. Meanwhile, Rihito is beginning to realize he’s in love with Yaeko. Yaeko and Rihito finally begin dating after admitting their feelings for one another. Yaeko is delighted to know that Rihito shares her affections, but she can’t hide her concern over the fact that he is so much younger than her. Just then, Yukie contacts them to say she has left her husband.

Yukie, having left her husband, decides to return home after being moved by his unexpected efforts to win her back. Meanwhile, Rihito is despondent about Yaeko’s concern over the gap in their ages. Later, the violin trio is brought together one more time to play at a special party.
