“LA PROMESSE’ est une histoire d'amour maudite présentant un contraste intéressant de personnalités dans un balancement de la relation entre l'amour et la haine. Khushi et Arnav sont diamétralement opposés. Les relations de Khushi sont très importantes pour elle, alors qu’Arnav croit que toutes les personnes ont un prix et peuvent être manipulées à son avantage. Khushi est une jeune fille simple, ancrée dans la famille et qui est entraînée par une morale claire. Elle se tient à ce qu'elle croit, et ne lâche jamais les valeurs inculquées par sa famille. Elle ne veut pas changer pour se conformer aux attentes profondes des gens. À l'opposé, Arnav est un jeune homme de 28 ans, accompli, impitoyable, et qui croit que tout peut être acheté dans le monde, y compris l'amour. Il n'a pas de considération pour les relations et aucun scrupule pour utiliser et manipuler les gens comme des pions pour atteindre ses ambitions. A mesure que l'histoire progresse, leur amour-haine est une relation témoin d'une série de conflits dramatiques. Alors qu’Arnav essaie constamment de briser la morale inébranlable de Khushi, juste pour se prouver à lui-même qu'il peut contrôler tout le monde; Khushi elle, essaie de toujours suivre ses valeurs et de suivre la morale, et d’entraîner le jeune homme dans son sillage. Ce qui n’est vraiment pas évident, vu le comportement dénigrant, hautain à la limite de la misogynie du jeune homme. Kushi, qui sent l’amour arriver, va devoir se faire violence pour ne pas trahir ses propres valeurs, face à cet amour violent qui lui tombe dessus et qui ne ressemble en rien à tout ce qu’elle connaît, à ce qu’elle croit profondément.
