This channel is an assortment of performances by VIXX, a band of Kenosha origin, or by VIXX's singer/guitarist/keyist Dylan Riley when he was bored. "Hey!" you say, impatiently, "There are barely any videos up of VIXX? What gives?" Well, VIXX has dispersed to spread its seed all of America east of the Mississippi [or just going to college]. Corey is at Madison, WI; Ryan is in Chicago, IL; and Dylan is in Manhattan, NY. "But I'm sick of hearing low quality, bogus-covers! Why don't you have any of your OWN songs, dudebro-skis?" Why, we do, in fact. http://www.sendspace.com/file/exlcg7 . Click that little link there, and you can download our new album. Free of charge. VIXX. It's everywhere you want to be, and it doesn't kill you with interest.

This is just a little cover that I did of Interpol's Rest My Chemistry. I did this before the CD was released, so gimme a break for getting some words wrong.

Épisode 3 - Christian Brothers Acoustic Cover

24 juillet 2007

Not gonna lie - Didn't hear this song until Queens of the Stone Age covered it. But it's an Elliott Smith original, and I love it. It's one of the most emotionally biting songs I know - and coming from someone who grew up on metal, that should say something. Enjoy.

3 mars 2008

This is the speech I delivered to the Tremper High Class of 2007.

Épisode 24 - Motion Picture Soundtrack - Acoustic cover

14 août 2008

My fingerpicked/handplayed version of Kid A's awesome closing track. The last verse is cool, but they didn't include it on the album for whatever reason.

Épisode 25 - A Sunday Smile - Beirut Piano Cover

21 août 2008

This is my piano take of the beautiful but creepy "A Sunday Smile" by Beirut. You can see the smoke dance when I sing harder, and you can hear the damn crickets chirping at the end. You can download my band's latest album for free by clicking http://www.sendspace.com/file/exlcg7 that. Actually, the album ends with a Beirut cover. Here are the lyrics All I want is the best for our lives, my dear And you know my wishes are sincere What's to say for the days I cannot bear? A Sunday smile, we wore it for awhile A cemetery mile, we paused and sang And we felt true We burned to the ground Left a view to admire The buildings inside Church of white light We burned to the ground Left a grave to admire The buildings reach for the sky Reached a church of white

Épisode 26 - Looking Back At Us, Acoustic in Brooklyn

12 janvier 2009

Corey Dome and Dylan Riley play a little love song to the hipsters of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Take off your thick-rimmed glasses and kiss a girl, for God's sakes.

Épisode 27 - Love's Dualism - BK

12 janvier 2009

Corey and Dylan play an acoustic version of the tune "Love's Dualism," in Williamsburg Brooklyn. It's one of those songs about a fleeting opportunity of love... a Craigslist Missed Connection, if you will. All of those pathetic moments that you have with a potential love interest that amount to nothing.

Épisode 28 - John Wayne Gacy - Acoustic Cover

30 mai 2009

My little rendition of John Wayne Gacy Jr. Creepy as hell.

Épisode 29 - The Gardener - Dylan Riley - Pete's Candy Store

29 juin 2009

A performance of a new song in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The lyrics are as follows: i left your apartment at 25 til one you'd dream of things more decent than the things that i have done your night, it might have ended but my own had just begun look at the flowers weaving toward the sun it's time to pay the gardener it's time to pick the weeds it's time to pay the gardener it's time to sow the seeds i met her at the intersection of 14th and third she had on a skinny skirt, i don't know how much you heard and all the things i'd done to you, i'd soon do unto her look at the flowers rising from the dirt it's time to pay the gardener it's time to pick the weeds it's time to pay the gardener it's time to sow the seeds don't call me up, babe, unless you want the job get the fuck up out my greenhouse if you think that it's too hot because i plucked off all your petals babe, and the answer is: i love you not i got what i wanted so i guess i can't complain business is just business, babe, it'll happen once again but waiting with my watering can is driving me insane look at the flowers, look at the flowers, thirsty for the rain

Épisode 30 - On The Esplanade - Cover of Julian Plenti (Paul Banks Solo)

18 juillet 2009

Per usual, my pre-release cover of a Paul Banks work. This is one of my favorites...especially the lyrics at the end. Surrealistically disheartening. I didn't do the picking the way he does it. I just don't think it works as well with a solo acoustic guitar.

Épisode 31 - In Your Time

13 août 2009

In your time, I felled a Christmas tree, Stuck the needles in my face, just like Pinhead from "Hellraiser." Face it, there's no pleasure to your pain There's no soothing function to your acupuncture Remember our dinner in the winter? You drank like it was a snow day And school was called off, And we'd run away, And I want to renew that. In your time, It got so old, I grew weary of wrestling you from the whistling wolves. I whisked you away again. I am so bold. Stoked the cooling coals again, But in your time, you've grown too cold In your time, you opened a gift from me: A cheap little sex toy, but that's what you'd get from me. Expected from me nothing but love and love-making, And shutting off the alarm while you slept in, naked. We'd put on the coffee and laugh About the things we didn't have, And you never came, But I never left you, And I want to renew that. In your time, It got so old, I grew weary of wrestling you from the whistling wolves. I whisked you away again. I am so bold. Stoked the cooling coals again, But in your time, you've grown too cold In your time, I tried to surprise you. I walked in your room and laid my eager eyes on you, Riding some guy, you were clad in a Santa hat, I was so sad about that. I threw the poinsettias on the floor, Stormed out the door, And I called you a heretic, Offered you marriage and sanctuary, And I want to renege that...

Épisode 32 - Vodka Tonic Love - Original Acoustic Version - Dylan Riley

7 novembre 2009

I spent my entire night alone, Then you show up out of nowhere, And I begin to drink I've always been the harshest critic A selfish, sinning cynic, But you left me no time to think Punch-drunk, Off your vodka tonic love I swore I was above it But you've sworn to prove me wrong Taking a shot With your vodka tonic love No chaser will rid me of it You'll chase me all night long Lights off, I don't want you to see me I don't want you to hear me I just want you here Right off the bat, I thought that you'd want me I hoped that you would haunt me But my judgement wasn't clear Punch-drunk Off your vodka tonic love I swore I was above it But you've sworn to prove me wrong Taking a shot With your vodka tonic love No chaser will rid me of it You'll chase me all night long Roll the dice, Pour them over cold, cold ice Once or twice, The third time is a charm I realize I'll see you soon with sober eyes I'll take you home tonight I've taken it too far I'll spend my entire life alone So happy to know you But now it's time to go Come here, I've got something to show you I thinking I might owe you a drink, Tell me: what do you think it will be?

Épisode 33 - The Guest - Original - Acoustic Version - Dylan Riley

7 novembre 2009

What a poor mistake! I left the oven on again, And this time it's too late I know the error of my ways Instead of exiting the stage, I've been taking it away Well, no need to shove me out I won't be hanging around Because my carpet gives more comfort than your couch No need to show me the door, I've seen it once before, And now I promise I won't come anymore I dreamed I met you at the Coney Island pier You fell and disappeared, And it's my fault I fear I feel like splinters in your feet Like blisters in the heat, You want to rid yourself of me

Épisode 34 - Your Hostile World

14 mai 2010

www.myspace.com/dylanrileynyc If I were waiting for you, would you arrive? I've been so patient this time, this time, Waiting in gardens whose flowers face away. You can't expect me to stay, to stay Avert your love from me and betray Betray Betray Betray I planted my seeds in your cold hard ground, Will you let them grow or keep it down, keep it down? And cast me in oceans with a coral crown I need a friend to bail me out, bail me out, Reach out for me or I'll drown I'll drown I'll drown I'll drown If I were waiting for you, would you arrive? I've been so patient this time, this time And if you were with me, would you look in my eyes? I need your light to survive, survive Reach out for me or I, Or I'll die I'll die I'll die I'll die

Épisode 35 - The Guest - Dylan Riley featuring Gwyn Stansfield

14 juin 2010

An original song, played at Pete's Candy Store, 6/13/2010

Épisode 36 - Good Things Come to Us Too Late - Dylan Riley

26 juin 2010

Peel me off my mattress Take me to the office and sit me down Right now I've spent too much time making wishes And not enough ensuring they come true With you Chorus (x2) I've been told so long all good things end Tell me now, when do they begin? Oh, "it's just not my time yet It's not my time" Hold my hand under the table Tell me fables of friendship feigned by us for years My worst fear Can't pretend that we're platonic The vodka tonic truth serum is in Again Chorus (x2) I've been told so long all good things end Tell me now, when do they begin? Oh, "it's just not my time yet It's not my time" Now I think that you've lost sight Of the one you were before I want beauty I want light You have neither anymore So give me back my money I'll go shopping for a means to reach my end My "friend" Chorus (x2) I've been told so long all good things end Tell me now, when do they begin? Oh, "it's just not my time yet It's not my time"

Épisode 37 - All of the Ways - Interpol 2010 Cover

22 août 2010

Tell me you're mine Baby, tell me you're mine to break the ice Does he make you smile? Does he fully embrace the way? Does he lead you to the fight that you like? Who is this guy? This twee neophyte; does he know that I'll wait for all time? Does he make you right? Does he say that he'd like to know you? Does he say that he wants to know All of the ways you will make it up, make it up for me? Tell me you're fine Baby, tell me it's hard to fake it time after time Who is this guy? Does he say that he'd like to know you? Does he say that he wants to know All of the ways you will make it up Make it up for me? I know, I know the ways you will make it up Make it up for me

Épisode 38 - Little By Little Acoustic Cover - from Radiohead's King of Limbs

27 février 2011

A cover of Radiohead's "Little by Little" with acoustic guitar and vocals. This is the third track from the band's new album "King of Limbs" and my favorite of the bunch.

Épisode 39 - Pass You On

15 février 2012

I wrote your number on a wall, yeah, yeah I did So someone someday soon can call you, but I didn't, I didn't throw it away I did it just to make sure That someone always knows about you, always And I passed you on I put your address in a bottle, and then I, I left it in a bar I couldn't send it to sea That's too cliche for me, and it's Too easy for the sharks to swallow, and I know Another man will always follow me, always So I passed you on So pass me on, go out and dance I don't deserve a second glance As shit turns out, I'm not the man, who I wanted to be So pass me on, go out and dance For you deserve a better chance With a man who's better dressed, Makes better money than me.
