Released in 1981, Ultravox's Vienna became a seminal track of the era. As its director Russell Mulcahy says: "A lot of my videos tried to tell a little story and Vienna is the perfect example of a video that was created as a story that had a climax". He created the effect of a feature film by putting black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, and his pioneering approach caught the attention of Duran Duran. Gary Kemp talks about the impact that video had on an emerging new romantic scene.
