The Wine Show sees the series’ main presenters and enthusiastic wine novices, actors Matthew Goode & Matthew Rhys, take us on a fresh, informative and entertaining journey into wine, looking behind the labels on all kinds of bottles, from the wine we enjoy every day with our dinner, to the really, really fine stuff. From their villa in the Italian countryside, Goode and Rhys are set a new challenge every week that sees them explore different parts of Italy, uncovering some of the best wines the country has to offer, as well as the stories that surround them. Joining Matthew & Matthew on their entertaining journey of education are the show’s passionate expert wine contributors, Joe Fattorini and Amelia Singer, who skilfully guide them along the way.

Matthew Goode and Matthew Rhys star in this series about the stories behind some of the world’s most fascinating wines. From their villa HQ in the Italian hills they head to Tuscany for a barrel race and find a wine made by a woman called Dora. Expert Joe Fattorini visits South Africa where he finds out about whether Napoleon and Charles Dickens’ favourite drink has withstood the test of time. Chef Brad McDonald tells us about his favourite grape and cooks a dish to complement it and we learn about whether a wine made by a tattooed punk in Australia can have anything in common with one made at Chateau Margaux, one of the world’s most exclusive vineyards.

In this edition, they travel to Montalcino to meet a Tuscan called Cinzano where they crash his vintage Fiat 500. Gizzi Erskine travels to Arizona to meet rock star turned vineyard supremo Maynard James Keenan.

In this edition, they head to Italy's ancient capital, where they find out why ancient Romans added cheese to their wine. Joe Fattorini finds himself in a very tight spot in the Loire, when he discovers how one winemaker helped the French Resistance during WWII. Chef Jose Pizarro reveals his favourite grape and cooks a dish to complement it. Amelia Singer heads down under to explore one of wine's best kept secrets - the Mornington Peninsula.

Series for wine lovers presented by Matthew Goode and Matthew Rhys, along with experts Joe Fattorini and Amelia Singer from their base in the Italian countryside. In this edition, the two Matthews travel to the Vatican to meet a priest who needs a new communion wine. Joe heads to South Africa, where he heads out on baboon patrol at a vineyard inside a game reserve. Chef Francesco Mazzei goes to his home in Calabria to reveal his favourite grape, and cooks a dish to complement it. Amelia joins Joe on skis when they go head-to-head over French Alpine wines, and share their secret vin chaud recipes.

In this edition, the two Matthews head to Chianti country, the one-time home to a certain Mona Lisa Gherardini. Joe Fattorini visits the Maule valley to find out how hope can find roots in the vineyards at the epicentre of Chile's devastating 2010 earthquake. Chef Atul Kochhar fires up his tandoor to complement his favourite wine. Finally, the programme visits Moldova, a tiny country where a quarter of the population rely on wine for their livelihood, to find out just why Russia stopped buying their wine.

Amelia Singer explores the German roots of one of Australia's greatest wine regions, the Barossa Valley.

From their villa HQ in the Italian hills our two gentleman head to Verona, setting for Romeo & Juliet where they practice their newly learned sommelier skills on two unsuspecting lovers. Amelia Singer valiantly attempts to persuade Joe Fattorini that there’s more to do with port than drink it at Christmas. They then take a cruise up the Douro, Portugal’s most stunning wine country, to visit one of England’s oldest wine families who are at the forefront of Portugal’s wine revolution. Star LA Chef Niki Nakayama chooses a Japanese sake as her favourite wine and creates a dish to match it. And Joe Fattorini takes us to Chile to find out just how far the ‘Volvo’ of the wine world has come and visits the cellar where 120 Chilean revolutionaries hid during the Chilean war of independence.

Joe Fattorini heads to Hong Kong to explore China’s ‘red obsession’ and a WW2 bunker where the most exclusive wine tastings in the world take place. Yorkshire Chef Frances Atkins shares her love of white wine and creates a very unusual dish to match it. Amelia Singer visits Seppeltsfield in Australia’s Barossa Valley where she comes face to face with some snapshots of her own family’s history.

In their villa HQ in the Italian hills they turn the tables on wine expert Joe Fattorini and send him off to find a wine that breaks all the rules. He heads to the beautiful city of Orvieto and meets a winemaker who’s making a cool climate pinot noir in Lazio. Chef Stephen Harris shares his love of red burgundy and creates a simple dish to complement it. Matt and Matt are challenged to tell the difference between a £120 bottle of French wine and one from Spain that costs just £10 as The Wine Show looks into wine fraud and the story of Rudi Kurniawan, the most famous wine criminal in history. And Joe meets the matriarchs at the Township Winery in Cape Town doing everything they can to create a legacy for their children.

And Amelia Singer heads to Adelaide and the Vineyard of the Future to see the cutting edge technology being used to help winemakers counter the effects of climate change, before going to Tasmania to see how one winemaker decided to expand his business into the most southern point in Australia.

In the first show in the new series of The Wine Show, Matthew Goode welcomes new face James Purefoy to their beautiful new villa in France. Together they are tasked with putting together a case of wine to match a six-course lunch made by Michelin starred French chef Stéphane Reynaud. Judging which wine goes in the case, is the world’s most influential wine critic Jancis Robinson. This week it’s pre-lunch snacks they have to match and they head to Provence for rosé wine in the charming town of Cotignac. Joe Fattorini is off on his travels too. He’s with comedian Gina Yashere in Santa Barbara learning how a cup of coffee can predict what kind of wine you might like. As Joe tries to convince Gina he will find a wine for her sensitive palate, she reveals a surprise of her own for Joe. Back in the UK, Matthew Rhys is in glamorous and historic London St James’s on his quest to find gadgets old and new.

They get an early morning call in the Ardeche before heading up the river in a kayak and caving their way to a very unusual wine cellar. Back at the villa, Jancis Robinson chooses her favourite wine of the two they bring back. Meanwhile, Joe Fattorini has been in Argentina to find out about a very successful immigrant and heads to Japan with top London brewer Jaega Wise to find out about sake. Back in London, Matthew Rhys is at Berry Brothers & Rudd in London's St James's looking at historic and modern gadgets.

Little do they know the chef has decided they need to work for their lunch. But they each find a wine to take back for Jancis Robinson to assess as a match to the fish course of Stephane Reynaud's epic six-course lunch. Meanwhile Joe Fattorini has been to the former Soviet republic of Georgia, to find out if it really can lay claim to being the cradle of wine. And Joe joins wine expert Amelia Singer in California to find out how one sheriff is helping a local wine maker find people to work in her vineyard at a time of historic labour shortages. Back in London, Matthew Rhys is at Berry Brothers & Rudd in London's St James's looking at historic and modern gadgets.

In the fourth show, James Purefoy and Matthew Goode find themselves in stunning Burgundy on the hunt to each find a wine to match the main course in their epic six-course lunch. With Coq aux Vin on the menu, it's the only place to be. They visit the historic Chateau du Clos du Vougeot and the Confrerie du Chevaliers du Tastevin – the knights of the Order of Winetasters. They learn about the history of the chateau and Burgundy but before they can choose a wine, have to sit an exam. Can they learn their wines as well as their lines? With their wines chosen they head back to their villa for the judgement of Jancis Robinson, the world's most influential wine critic. Meanwhile Joe Fattorini is competing in the Medoc Marathon with Jamie Ramsay, adventure runner. This is a full marathon where every mile there is a chateau offering a sample of their latest vintage to all the competitors. With the mercury hitting 30 degrees C and Joe in fancy dress, things don't work out quite as Joe hoped. Amelia Singer joins Joe in Canada, to find out if their wines can really hold their own against more established wine regions. And back in London, Matthew Rhys is at Berry Brothers & Rudd in London's St James's looking at historic and modern gadgets.

In the fifth show in the new series, James Purefoy and Matthew Goode are in the Camargue on the hunt for wines to match the cheese course in the epic French lunch. In an effort to understand the Camargue way of life, they become cowboys for the day, rounding up bulls before they are allowed to sit down and taste some wines. With their wines chosen they head back to the villa for the judgement of Jancis Robinson, the world's most influential wine critic. Joe Fattorini is in Bosnia to find out how one vineyard is trying to heal some very open wounds of war. And he joins Amelia Singer in St Tropez for an inspiring beach lunch with legendary winemaker Sacha Lichine before getting aboard the cruise ship Celebrity Reflection to host a VIP wine dinner. And back in London, Matthew Rhys is at Berry Brothers & Rudd in London's St James's looking at historic and modern gadgets.

In the sixth show in the current series of The Wine Show James Purefoy and Matthew Goode are in the belly of France – the food-obsessed city of Lyon – to find a wine for the dessert course of their epic French feast. They visit a traditional bouchon where they eat tripe, calves head and pike before heading off to satisfy their sweet tooth at Pralus, a patisserie famed for its Praluline brioche. Time for them to put on their aprons and get baking. With their wines chosen they had back to the villa for the judgement of Jancis Robinson, the world's most influential wine critic. Joe Fattorini is in the Basque Spanish city of San Sebastian with chef José Pizarro. They head to Rioja to find wines for a dinner at one of San Sebastian's oldest Gastronmic Societies, Kanyonetan.

The last show of the current series of The Wine Show is a Food & Wine special. Hosts James Purefoy and Matthew Goode introduce us to six wines chosen by some of the world's greatest sommeliers. In their restaurants around the world, the chefs create some inspiring wine and food pairings. We visit the legendary Pied de Terre on London's Charlotte Street, new sensation Single Thread Farm in California, the unique Bubbledogs Kitchen Table in London, Bel Canto in Lisbon, the stunning Lime Wood in Hampshire and the ground-breaking Dairy in Clapham, South London. We also revisit some of the highlights of Matt and James's journey around France.
