The Up Series est une série de films documentaires qui suivent la vie de quatorze enfants britanniques depuis 1964, lorsqu'ils étaient âgés de sept ans. Jusqu'à présent, le documentaire a eu neuf épisodes couvrant 56 années (un épisode tous les sept ans). Les enfants ont été sélectionnés pour représenter différents milieux socio-économiques du Royaume-Uni de l'époque, avec l'hypothèse explicite que la classe sociale prédétermine l'avenir de chaque enfant. Tous les sept ans, le réalisateur Michael Apted (décédé en 2021)a filmé les quatorze qui ont choisi de participer.

Being a parent or a grandparent dominates life's pleasures. Simon has found responsibility; John's charity work flourishes. Neil remains in politics, against all odds. Jackie leads the critique of a more deliberately-present Apted and the series' intrusiveness. None enjoy participating; all are reflective; several surpass expectations.

Director Michael Apted catches up with more of the people he first met as seven-year-old children back in 1964. Paul and Symon - who back then were filmed growing up in the same children's home - have an emotional reunion in Australia, where Paul emigrated as a teenager. The film also catches up with Neil, whose rollercoaster life has taken him from homelessness to politics.
