Nous sommes à Stockport en 1990 et Martin Parker, un homme avec l’ambition d’Alan Sugar et le look de Robert Kilroy Silk, se rend lentement compte que les choses changent. Avec une chaîne de magasins d'électricité, une femme, des enfants et une voiture flash, il mène une vie parfaite. Mais en réalité, il nage dans un océan de dettes et de mensonges, et il incombe aux deux femmes de sa vie, Kath et Diane, de planifier sa chute.
