The first of it's kind...the original adult western. The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp was the first in a wave of new TV westerns aimed at adults (previous entries, such as The Cisco Kid and The Lone Ranger, were considered fodder for the after-school crowd). The show was then followed, in the same season, by Gunsmoke on CBS, Frontier on NBC and Wyatt's fellow ABC show Cheyenne. It was these four shows alone that started an incredible and unmatched phenomena that would see up to 28 new westerns premiering during the 1958 primetime TV season. But only a handful of them were able to dominate a few of the top 10 spots in the network ratings and Wyatt Earp was one of them. Wyatt Earp was inspired by the legendary events of the real life Frontier Marshal who lived from 1848 to 1929. The show followed Earp from his days as a Marshal in Ellsworth and then later Dodge City (this caused some confusion amongst viewers since Matt Dillion was the Marshal of Dodge City in Gunsmoke) and finally

Épisode 1 - Wyatt Earp Becomes A Marshal
6 septembre 1955
Ellsworth, Kansas 1873. Young Wyatt arrives in town fresh from a buffalo hunt looking to clean up and find his friend Sheriff Whitney who has sent for him. Despite it's peaceful appearance, Ellsworth is an ornery little town in need of cleaning up. When his frind is shot, Wyatt feels he must take a stand.

Concerned that his fellow marshal Bat Masterson has been spending time with a woman whose jealous boyfriend is a notorious outlaw, Earp tries to reduce the possibility of bloodshed by banning firearms from the city of Ellsworth.

Although the town is clamoring for Earp to form a posse to shoot it out with killer Bill Thompson, Earp decides to try a more stealthy means of tracking him down by using Indian scouts.

Earp must defuse the situation when cowboys arriving from Texas think that their hero Robert E. Lee has been insulted by the townspeople of Ellsworth.
Épisode 5 - Wyatt Earp Comes to Wichita

Wyatt leaves Ellsworth and becomes the Marshall of Wichita. His first challenge is a group of local vigilantes so intent on hanging a local Faro dealer that they are concealing evidence that he was acting in self-defense.

After outlaws put a bounty on killing Marshal Earp, he immediately becomes a target for the first foolhardy gunman who needs the money.
Épisode 7 - The Gambler

Earp is blamed for the back shooting of the saloon owner Bennett after exposing his crooked games. Earp is the only person to use copper jacketed bullets in Wichita which is what was dug out of the wounded Bennett's back.
Épisode 8 - The Killer

After Earp kicks Bennett out of Wichita for a crooked Faro game, Bennett hires the killer Manon Clemens to kill Earp and have his cowboys tree the town. Earp uses trickery to defeat Clemens who kills Bennett for deceiving him.

1 novembre 1955
Jehn Wesley Hardin comes to Wichita to revenge Earp running his friend Clemens out of Wichita. Hardin has told his wife he is happy to leave and continue to Nebraska but he has several gun tricks one of which he plans to use on Earp.

Wounded bank robber Clem Parker and his girl Bonnie Dawson want no part of Tarp Anders' brash gang of thieves, but Wyatt isn't sure whether to believe Bonnie's story that the Anders gang plans to rob the Union Bank without Parker.

Earp has been using sanitary laws to close crooked saloons as Ben Thompson comes to Wichita to open one. Ben feels a debt of gratitude toward Earp but it causes problems as the rest of the saloon operators have men gunning for Earp.

Earp takes an interest in Mamie Perkins but there is something amiss in the relationship even though his friends hope they marry. Earp learns she loves another man who needs Earp's protection from Fog MacMurray's gang of cattle rustlers.

Earp kicks a crooked gambler out of Wichita so three saloon owners decide they are tired of the pressure. They decide to hire two gunmen to assassinate Earp but he gets wind of the plot. Earp brings in some special outside help to stop it.

Bill Slocum is accused by Duke Wilson of rustling. They take him in Wichita with plans to lynch him outside town but Earp stops them. Slocum is put on trial while Earp does some investigation which produces a major surprise for the jury.

Two Indians who have helped Earp previously are being held by a renegade selling rifles to the Indians. They are in the Oklahoma Territory so the Army has asked Earp to go in as a US Marshal to rescue them.

Earp returns to Wichita to find a crooked gambler has been given a saloon license by his deputies. Murdock wants the license revoked as Earp's desk is found to contain a $300 bribe framing Earp who has to give up his Marshal badge.

Earp closes a show because the men attending are being ripped off by the girls in it. The owner wants to get even with Earp. He decides to attack the stars of a competing play hoping to trap Earp on his own terms but Earp has other plans.

Big winners at the Keno House are being killed and robbed on the way back to the their camps. Wyatt is unsure if it's crooked casino owners or if someone else is to blame.

George Peschauer hates Earp and was kicked out of Ben Thompson's gang for his ruthlessness. He is trying to sell an Englishman a ranch loaded with rustled cattle but a nosy female hotel owner is trying to protect the likable Englishman.

The Kansas Kid is wanted by the Kingman Sheriff for robbery, murder, and wounding one of his deputies. The Kid returns to his parents' home where Earp arrests him. However, there is a question of his guilt and the intentions of the Sheriff.

But word that Wyatt is in a real jam is spread by a cowhand grateful for past favors, and soon wuch old friends and strange characters - each grateful in his own way - quietly assemble to rescue Wyatt in an all-time famous gun battle with the Big T. These characters include Bat Masterson, Ben Thompson, Doc Holliday, John Wesley Hardin, Mannen Clements and others.

An Army officer is captured by Pawnee Indians who have left the reservation and bought faulty guns. The undercover officer is trying to find who is selling the guns. Earp has to rescue the officer but to do so must find the seller.

When a well-liked cattle buyer is shot, then townspeople are eager to convict a drunken Reb Thomas. Reb was found with the gun in his hand, standing over the body, but he insists that he passed out and never fired a shot. Wyatt soon discovers that Reb may be telling the truth.

Doc and Kate unexpectedly develop parental streaks when they take in a 12-year-old girl, the legendary "Little Pistol," after she robs Doc's gambling hall.

When the townspeople refuse to let Kate Holliday join their church, Doc comes up with a scheme for revenge. He convinces a couple that the oil puddle they have on the road to Dodge City passing through their land can be used to make a medical ointment. Railroad engineman Tex McVey arrives in Dodge City, eager to break a new record. But when he runs a train off the tracks, he claims that robbers sabotaged the tracks because of the cattle he was carrying.

A stagecoach arrives in Dodge City with an injured driver, a dead passenger, and an empty case that held $5,000 gold from the Denver Mint. The driver, Billy Hanley, claims that he recognized one of the masked robbers by his voice. Wyatt figures that Billy's story doesn't add up wen he confirms that the accused man has an alibi. Then Billy turns up dead, leaving a grief-stricken girlfriend, schoolteacher Miss Nancy, to mourn his death

Wyatt Earp's two Indian friends, Mr. Cousin and Mr. Brother, have information about four notorious murderers, The Dry Gulchers. The Gulchers intercept the Indians and kill one of them. Earp swears he will run them into the ground

Western landscape painter Hurley Abbott turns to Wyatt for fighting advice when George Jackson orders him off his property after Hurley becomes involved with George's niece, Etta. But it's Doc Holliday who lends a hand when he returns to Dodge City and takes an interest in Hurley's paintings

Wyatt Earp continues his search for the remaining three men (he has already bagged one) who killed his Indian friend, Mr. Brother. But this time Wyatt and Bat Masterson, in addition to chasing the Dry Gulchers, has to contend with a group of Cheyenne and a young Army lieutenant still damp behind the ears. But Wyatt bags number two of his query. Two down, two to go.

Embarrassment it is when Wyatt is forced to enter a rodeo to prove that Mr. Buntline is no liar and the big feature is a ""shootout"" at two hundred yards, between Wyatt and his Buntline Special and an enemy with a Winchester.

Doc is glad to help out on behalf of Wyatt, and figures what his friend doesn't know won't hurt him. They successfully frame Behan, but Wyatt is suspicious of the frame-up.

After the death of Old Man Clanton, Marshal Earp thought he say a chance to split Clanton's outfit by tricking the outlaws into gunning each other down. Wyatt knew that if this failed there would have to be a fight to the finish between the John Law's of Tombstone and the Clanton outlaws.
