Pickup Artistry comes from a natural desire to find a sexual partner. So why does it get so damn weird? Pickup Artists come in varying degrees of harmfulness. In this video, I go in order from the innocuous, all the way to outright dangerous. Some are harmless and just provide us with some beloved cringe content to goof on, for example, Bobby Rio & the Mystery Method. Then there are some that promote misconceptions but aren't terrible people. You know, the guys that say "follow these tips to get out of the friendzone!" They give bad advice, but they're not the worst. Then at the top of the scale, we have guys like Roosh. In this video essay, I dig into Asa Seresin's theory of 'Heterofatalism' in his essay 'On Heteropessimism'. 2024 NOTE: I refer to Asa by his name that credited with the article at the time, so I unfortunately use his deadname in this video. In short: it's the idea that straight women are tired of heterosexual relationships and feel that they are eternally doomed. Seresin calls this an "anesthesia" to soothe the inequalities that still persist in relationships between men and women.
