Drama-documentary exploring the events of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster. from the perspective of Valeri Legasov, the scientist in charge of the investigation, played by Adrian Edmondson. The programme reveals how the authorities, afraid of widespread panic, repressed information about the extent of the danger. As radiation 400 times the safe level seeped into the air, people in the surrounding area were completely unaware of the lethal threat they faced.

Reconstruction of the earthquake that devastated San Francisco in 1989, the most powerful tremor to strike northern California in 80 years. The story is told from the perspective of emergency services at the Cypress freeway, a huge viaduct supporting two levels of roadway. The concrete pillars supporting the structure were damaged, and rescue workers fought to get all the motorists clear before everything collapsed.

Reconstruction of the 1979 Fastnet yacht race, which was struck by a force 10 transatlantic storm that lasted 24 hours. The greatest disaster in the history of the sport claimed the lives of 15 sailors, and out of 300 vessels that set out, only 85 completed the course. The programme tells the story from the perspective of two crews and examines the safety concerns raised in the aftermath.

Recreation of the hostage crisis that ensued in 1980 when Iranian militants seized control of the US embassy in Tehran. After five months of negotiations, President Jimmy Carter attempted to resolve the matter by force, sending in an elite military unit. It was a decision that ended in disaster, costing the lives of eight men and bringing down the Presidency.
Épisode 7 - The Sinking of the Estonia

The final programme covers the Estonia ferry tragedy. Considered a symbol of freedom from Communist rule by the Estonian people, the ship set off through the Baltic sea in 1994. When a fierce storm occurred, the crew remained determined to arrive at their destination on time and maintained full speed. However, this caused the car ramp to open, sinking the vessel and killing over 800 people.
