Sotoba est un petit village cerné par les montagnes. Par une journée caniculaire, trois cadavres y sont découverts, sans qu’on puisse déterminer avec certitude les causes de leur mort. Au même moment, Megumi Shimizu, une jeune lycéenne, disparaît après avoir fait la connaissance des Kirishiki, une famille qui vient juste de s’installer dans un château sur les hauteurs du village. D’étranges événements se succèdent alors, qui ne sont que les prémisses d’un été terrifiant !
