Japon, époque féodale. Congédié par son seigneur, le jeune samouraï Masanosuke a quitté sa campagne natale pour s'endurcir et trouver un travail de garde du corps à Edo. Timide, renfermé et craintif, le jeune guerrier n'a toutefois pas la carrure de l'emploi qu'il recherche. Alors qu'il est renvoyé une énième fois par ses employeurs, un homme énigmatique se propose de l'embaucher. Ce dernier n'est autre que le chef d'une bande de brigands, les Goyô, spécialisés dans les enlèvements. Sans ressources, Masanosuke accepte de rester à ses côtés et apprend à connaître ses singuliers acolytes. Peu à peu, alors que les motivations des uns et des autres se précisent, le jeune guerrier apprend à se connaître lui même… -Kazé-
