Épisode 11 - Why are the Japanese so Lonely? | Salari
26 septembre 2020
Since Japan's economic troubles began in the 90s, the country's population has continued to suffer by attempting to keep up with the endless demand for productivity. Over the past few decades, it has become increasingly evident that the longstanding culture and traditions of Japan are inherently incompatible with capitalism, and its people have had to sacrifice their need for love and intimacy in order to keep the system afloat. This documentary explores the culture of Japan, and how the demands of capitalism work in direct opposition to them, resulting in one of the unhappiest developed nations in the world. Épisode 12 - Parks and Recreation - Bad Politics, Bad Comedy, Bad Everything | Salari
26 octobre 2020
People think I'm just being a contrarian when I say I think Parks and Rec is a bad show, but hear me out and I think you'll understand why I feel this way. It fails to deliver well written comedy, the writers had no clue what they were doing with the characters, they relied far too heavily on joke callbacks, and the political implications behind the show were truly awful. Also, remember that at the end of the day, this is just my take, if you like the show, I'm not telling you to think otherwise, I'll still love you either way. Épisode 14 - Female Objectification in Media - A Persona 5 Case Study | Salari
9 décembre 2020
Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal contain an excellent critique of objectification of women; it condemns those do it and asks you to do so as well, but it very quickly undercuts this message by doing a heel turn and objectifying the same characters who were victimized, in an attempt to pander to audiences. This is a look at how creators can write characters who have ownership of their sexuality, rather than existing to titillate audience. Credit goes to Kurashu for the fantastic graphics and intro Skip the overview: 6:55 If you enjoyed this video (or are currently enjoying it while reading this), then please consider subscribing to my channel to keep up with future content and supporting me on Patreon. Épisode 15 - The Beauty Double Standard Between Men & Women | Salari
26 décembre 2020
It's well known that when it comes to appearances there has been a double standard between men and women for as long as we can remember. This video looks at why these continue to exist, how they're perpetuated by the media and cosmetics/fashion industries, and why even though men are pressured to look good, it's worse for women. Épisode 16 - Reality TV & The Glamorous Lies it Sells | Salari
12 janvier 2021
Correction: at one point in the video I mention how Frenchie Davis was disqualified from American Idol by the Disney owned network, ABC. During the time Frenchie appeared on the show, American Idol was a Fox owned property and was later acquired by ABC. Throughout the years, Fox has also been called out for their hypocrisy in their programming; in particular the kind of content seen on Fox (the entertainment network) conflicting with the extremely conservative views of Fox News. Despite the show airing on Fox, it seems the network decided to resort to family friendly values and ejected Frenchie from the competition, and later decided to keep Antonella Barba, who appeared four years later, a decision which also made by Fox. I sincerely apologize for this oversight, and I promise to be more thorough with my research in the future. Reality TV contests love to sell you the idea that the road to stardom is simplistic and smooth, they use the commonly established narrative of rags to riches and turn real people into stories, they utilize the backstories and pain of the contestants and turn them into a tool to turn them into a character. They sells the idea that fame and success is guaranteed upon winning, but on most occasions this isn't the case. For every Carrie Underwood or Harry Styles, there's dozens of names we've forgotten, and shows like American Idol, X Factor, America's Got Talent and others are more than fine with that happening. Let's explore the glamorous lies of reality TV contests Graphics by Kurashu If you enjoyed this video (or are currently enjoying it while reading this), then please consider subscribing to my channel to keep up with future content and supporting me on Patreon. I love you, enjoy the video, enjoy baking. Recipe: For the biscuits 200g slightly salted or unsalted butter, softened 50g icing sugar 2 tsp vanilla extract 200g plain flour 2 tsp cornflour/cornstarch ½ tsp baking powder For the filling 100g unsalted butter, softened 170g icing sugar 1 tsp vanilla extract 50g raspberry jam or strawberry jam STEP 1 Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/350F/320F fan, gas 4 and line 2 baking sheets with baking parchment. Put the butter and icing sugar in a large bowl and beat with an electric hand whisk for about 5 mins until pale and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and beat again until fully incorporated. STEP 2 Sift in the flour, cornflour/cornstarch and baking powder, and fold into the mixture using a spatula until combined (the dough should have a tacky consistency). Spoon the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star-shaped nozzle. If all the mixture doesn’t fit, do it in 2 batches. STEP 3 Pipe swirly circles 5cm diameter onto 2 baking sheets making sure there are 3cm spaces between each swirl. STEP 4 Bake for 10-12 mins, swapping the trays over halfway through the cooking time so the biscuits are evenly baked, until pale golden and cooked through. Leave to cool on the baking sheets for a few mins, then transfer to wire racks. STEP 5 While the biscuits cool, make the filling. Put the softened butter in a large mixing bowl and add the icing sugar. Stir together initially with a wooden spoon then switch to electric beaters or a whisk to get the buttercream fluffy and smooth. Add the vanilla extract and beat once more to combine. Transfer the buttercream to a piping bag and snip off the end. STEP 6 Turn the biscuits over so their flat side is facing up then pipe buttercream over half of the biscuits and spread a little jam on the rest. Sandwich a jam covered biscuit together with a buttercream one and repeat until all the biscuits are used up. News outlets such as Fox News, OAN and various conservative right wing outlets have become prominent on Facebook, along with right wing figures such as Ben Shapiro and his site, The Daily Wire. Boomers are a generation that have become especially vulnerable to the echo chamber created in social networks like Facebook, due to the repetitive nature of how information in distributed, and how algorithms feed upon outrage. More recently, the "Sigma male" came into existence, seemingly out of nowhere, but according to the groups that subscribe to the ideas of male hierarchies, it's always been a thing, just exceedingly rare, but equally desirable to the alpha male. I would argue that much like the idea of alpha males, beta males, etc; sigma males are just another way of placing men in categories while ignoring their own needs and desires. As such, much of the media they produce and consume is designed from the ground up to promote fear of the "other", and they express how force is the most expedient and effective method of achieving a positive outcome. From America's news networks, to its multi-billion dollar grossing films, the idea of overcoming "evil" in the world has spread at a disturbing rate, all the while, these same media outlets admonish diplomacy, intimacy and love. It's also become increasingly difficult to find and maintain relationships, so with all these factors in mind, some people have started to retreat from the world, resulting in them becoming what some have dubbed - Doomers: the people who have given up on life. I want to explore why doomers have essentially given up on hope, by looking at the various societal factors, along with how capitalism has brought young people to their knees. I also want to explore my own past as a doomer, and share a very personal story on how I sunk into misery, and how I got out. So yeah, it's a pretty uplifting video. Support these creators! Épisode 33 - TikTok is Messing with your Brain (On Purpose) | Salari
6 mai 2022
Oh boy, it finally happened, a video on TikTok... As you know, TikTok is massive right now, especially among younger, more impressionable audiences. At this time, it's difficult to quantify the effect social media has on a developing brain, but over time it's becoming apparent that what people see online can be incredibly convincing and influential, messing with their self-image and even how they perceive reality. This video looks at how TikTok (and by extent other social media) affects children, teens, and even young adults. We'll also explore how the platform actively promotes impossible to achieve beauty standards and wealth, while shaming and shunning users who don't adhere to these standards. We'll also briefly touch on the disturbing amount of control the Chinese government has over the app, such as its censorship of posts critical of it. ?Support the channel on Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/Salari ☕Make a one-time donation through Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/salari ?Follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/SalariTV ?Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/jsalari ????Come hang out with us on Discord: https://discord.gg/salari Follow Ana Marta Filomeno, and support her work! https://twitter.com/attractivemonki https://www.instagram.com/attractivemonkey/?hl=en https://attractivemonkey.com/ Ana also made the thumbnail for this video, so thank you so much for that! Its highs can be glorious but its lows can be absolutely devastating, both financially and emotionally. This is a common experience among many YouTubers, especially smaller creators such as myself, and sadly it's something that isn't discussed enough publicly - usually out of fear of unfair criticism or being accused of seeming ungrateful for achieving a level of success millions of video makers could only dream of. The reality though, is that unless your channel is huge and you don't have to worry about the algorithm anymore, being a YouTuber can feel like hell, especially if you work alone. I also wish to have an honest discussion about the Breadtube sphere, and how larger creators are essentially monopolizing audiences and their financial support, while doing little nothing to ensure that voices from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds are heard, despite having the resources to boost those who desperately need to be heard. Some people might not like what they have to hear in this video, but they should hear it anyway. Also, if you wanna buy me something nice, here's that list (but really, don't, this is just small example of how much it costs to have higher production value): https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3VPR1BD6X8AVM?ref_=wl_share Check out MainelyMandy's channel, and follow her Twitter! https://www.youtube.com/c/MainelyMandy https://twitter.com/mainelymandy If you're a content creator/artist and want a ride on the Boost Bus, then please email me at salarivideo@gmail.com with the subject: Boost Please be sure to include a brief bio about yourself, what you want promoting (including links to your work - if it's art then please ensure it's hi-res so it can be used in videos), along with your pronouns. This compilation has had sponsor segments removed, along with outros, so you can enjoy it with minimal interruptions! Let me know if you enjoyed this compilation in the comments, I have others I can put together, so I'd be happy to hear your feedback. Once again, I'm sorry that the next video has been delayed, but I hope you can understand that I don't wish to endanger my health by pushing myself too hard. Thanks for your support, much love ? Épisode 44 - How the Right Wing Was Taught to FEAR Wokeness | Salari

It's no secret that their relationship with progressive ideas has been complicated over the years, but how and why did the word "woke" become something that causes them to become so angry... or afraid. In this video, I look at how we've reached this point. How online discourse, media and politics have reinforced the fear of wokeness, and how agitators on the right have intentionally encouraged their followers to fear something that they don't understand. Thanks to Dylan Reid Miller and my wife for their help researching this video, and thanks to Ana for her help with making the title graphic https://twitter.com/mxdylanreid https://twitter.com/DLSalari https://twitter.com/attractivemonki Due to lower engagement, the Boost Bus is still on hiatus.
