En 1999, un gigantesque vaisseau spatial extraterrestre s'écrase sur l'île de Macross dans l'Océan pacifique alors que les nations du monde étaient en guerre. Les états du monde, conscient du danger que peut représenter un peuple extraterrestre ayant atteint cette technologie, s'unissent pour restaurer le vaisseau, créant le SDF-1 Macross (Super Dimension Fortress-1). En 2009, alors que l'on s'apprète à inaugurer le SDF-1, des vaisseaux extra-terrestres s'approchent de l'orbite terrestre. Souhaitant en premier lieu éloigner la menace extra-terrestre de la Terre, le commandant Gloval ordonne un vol hyperspatial pour se rapprocher de la Lune ; mais en raison d'un dysfonctionnement, le SDF-1 entraîne une partie de l'île l'ensemble se rematérialise sur l'orbite de Pluton. Après le rapatriement de 56 000 civils à bord, le SDF-1 tente de regagner la Terre…

Épisode 1 - Boobytrap

En 1999, un vaisseau extra-terrestre (le SDF-1) s'écrase sur Terre. Lors de son inauguration, 10 ans plus tard, le capitaine Roy Fokker invite son ami Rick Hunter. Malheureusement les zentradiens, des guerriers géants extra-terrestres , lancent une attaque contre la forteresse. Rick est alors engagé inopinément dans la bataille.
Épisode 2 - Countdown

Les zentradiens donnent l'assaut à la ville de Macross et Rick qui vient de récupérer Minmei se retrouve encore au milieu des combats. Confronté à un ennemi, il est sauvé in extremis par Roy. Pendant ce temps, le SDF décolle malgré un essai infructueux et la réticence du Commandant Gloval.
Épisode 3 - Space Fold

Roy va chercher Rick et Minmei, tandis que le SDF part en orbite terrestre à la rencontre de la flotte de la RDF. Afin d'échapper aux zentradiens, le commandant Gloval ordonne un saut hyper spatial. Malheureusement, le SDF-1 échoue près de Pluton avec l'île de Macross.

La vie s'aménage tant bien que mal à bord du SDF. Roy et Minmei essayent de convaincre Rick de s'engager mais celui-ci refuse. Les zentradiens lancent encore une attaque contre le vaisseau. La situation étant critique, La transformation du SDF est engagée afin de pouvoir utiliser le canon principal.
Épisode 6 - Blitzkrieg

2 mois après le saut en hyper-espace, Rick s'est finalement engagé dans la RDF. Le SDF-1 se dirige vers la zone d'ombre de Saturne afin de lancer une contre attaque contre la flotte zentradienne. Lors de cette bataille qui est la première pour Rick, Lisa Hayes met au point une technique pour détruire le croiseur adverse.

Après avoir reçu des fausses informations, les SDF-1 se pause près de la base martienne. Au lieu de retrouver des survivants comme espéré, les humains tombent dans une embuscade de Khyron. Afin d'échapper au piège tendu, Lisa est obligée de faire exploser l'installation.

Suite à sa promotion, Rick se voit adjoindre 2 pilotes sous son commandement : Max Sterling et Ben Dixon. Mais son problème le plus important est de trouver un cadeau d'anniversaire pour Minmei. Pendant ce temps et malgré les ordres contraire de Breetai, Khyron lance un assaut contre le SDF-1.

Minmei s'est inscrite au concours de beauté Miss Macross, chose qui rend jaloux Rick. Les zentradiens, quand à eux, captent les images de ce concours, et envoient un appareil de reconnaissance pensant que c'est une nouvelle arme terrienne.

Exedore ordonne une salve d'avertissement afin de se montrer plus agressif envers les humains et Khyron profite de l'occasion pour détruire la tour radar du SDF-1. Lisa Hayes pilote un avion de reconnaissance escorté par Rick Hunter et son escadron. Mais ils sont capturés pendant la mission par les zentradiens.

Alors que Rick broie du noir dans sa chambre d'hôpital, Roy rencontre Minmei pour la convaincre d'aller son vieil ami. Les zentradiens lancent une attaque menée par Miriya (qui va s'acharner contre Max Sterling). Roy Fokker, touché pendant la bataille, mourra quelques temps après.
Épisode 19 - Bursting Point

Le commandant Gloval essaye à tout prix de débarquer les civils du SDF-1. Le quadrant nord-américain d'Ontario accepte, mais avant même que le débarquement ne commence, Khyron lancent encore une offensive. Lors de la bataille, l'écran protecteur du SDF-1 surcharge et détruit tout dans un rayon de 25 miles ainsi que certains Veritech dont Ben Dixon.

Lors de la première du film de Minmay, Rick rencontre Lisa et ils sont isolés ensemble lors de la transformation du SDF-1. Pendant ce temps, les zentradiens regardent avec attention le film, pensant que c'est une nouvelle arme terrienne.

Alors que la bataille fait rage au sein même de la ville de Macross, les déserteurs sèment la panique dans les rangs zentradiens. Après la bataille, ces déserteurs demandent l'asile sur le SDF-1. Le code génétique des extra-terrestres identique à celui des humains convainc le commandant Gloval d'accepter.

Après un combat duquel Max sort vainqueur, Max et Miriya décide de se marier. Au cour de la cérémonie, le commandant Gloval adresse un message plaidant la paix avec les extra-terrestres mais les zentradiens en profitent pour lancer une attaque afin de détruire le SDF-1.
Épisode 26 - The Messenger

Exedore se rend à bord du SDF-1 afin de négocier une trêve. Lors du conseil, il révèle aux humains les pouvoir psychologique des chansons de Minmay sur les soldats zentradiens. De son côté, Dolza décide de détruire la Terre et y envoi toutes les forces zentradiennes. Les humains et zentradiens alliés se préparent au combat.

La flotte zentradienne lance son attaque contre la Terre et en détruit pratiquement toute la surface. Grâce au chant de Minmay, les forces zentradiennes sont désorganisées et le SDF-1 détruit leur QG.

2 ans ont passé depuis le bombardement zentradien et les humains s'efforcent à reconstruire leur planète. Néanmoins il subsiste toujours des rebelles zentradiens menés par Khyron. Rick est affecté à la surveillance du territoire.

Depuis leur planète, les Maîtres de Robotech ont retrouvé la trace du SDF-1. Sur Terre, des nombreux zentradiens quittent les villes humaines pour rejoindre Khyron à cause de leur existence devenue paisible.

Des forces zentradiennes sont toujours stationnées sur l'usine satellite de robotechnologie. Max, Miriya, Lisa, Claudia et Rick sont envoyés sur le vaisseau de Breetaï afin de capturer cette usine des mains du commandant Reno. En utilisant Dana, l'enfant de Max et Miriya, pour déstabiliser les soldats zentradiens, les forces alliés s'emparent de l'usine et la ramène en orbite terrestre.

Lors de la bataille, le vaisseau de Khyron est sévèrement touché, il décide alors de se sacrifie en percutant le SDF-1 et SDF-2.

Nous sommes à bord du Macross, gigantesque vaisseau colonial terrien, dans un contexte de guerre entre les humains, les zentradiens (sorte d'extraterrestres géants tout vert), et la race des femmes guerrières (tout aussi grande que les zentradiens). Le héros, Ichijo Hikaru, est un pilote de VF (avion de guerre ayant la possibilité se transformer en mécha) dont la mission est de défendre le Macross contre les multiples attaques ennemies. Sa rencontre avec la sublime chanteuse Lynn Minmay va l'entraîner au cœur du conflit, sans se douter que la voix de celle-ci détient peut être la clé pouvant mettre un terme à la guerre et ainsi assurer la survie de l'Humanité.

The Invid have trapped Scott Bernard, and his band of freedom fighters, in a secluded forest. The dangers mount, as the new Robotech Defenders must try and protect themselves against the aliens, and the forces of nature.

Alex et Marcus, deux pilotes de VAF-6 Alpha de la base lunaire Aluce, sont en mission de reconnaissance afin de déterminer le potentiel ennemi. Les forces expéditionnaires de Robotech ont en effet décidé de lancer l'attaque finale sur la ruche Invid. L'assaut à peine entamé, les Invids prennent le dessus grâce à leur supériorité numérique, et ce malgré une technologie alien Shadow employée par les Varitechs. La situation est d'autant plus délicate que le renfort espéré du SDF-3 de l'Amiral Hunter est ralenti par des difficultés plus loin dans la galaxie. Tous ces événements n'échappent pas à l'œil inquisiteur d'une mystérieuse race alien à l'affut, tapie dans l'ombre...
