Épisode 1 - Three Cups of Coffee

14 janvier 2017 - 5/5

Kotarou wakes up in his room at night, with a deserted Kazamatsuri overgrown with greenery. Without a sense of purpose, he wanders to a hill of daisies, where he finds Kagari crouching over a board researching. He barely gets within a mile of her when he collapses in fright, waking up in his bed. It is night again, and he goes back to the hill, where his heart gets pulled out and gruesomely squashed instead. The next few weeks follow a similar pattern, with several failed proposals and minor variations of dying, after which Kotarou finally confesses that he just wanted a place where he could belong and not feel lonely. He then begs Kagari to kill him but finds her standing in front of him again. Kotarou finally learns her name, and with that new trust building up between them, is able to come a few inches closer everyday, until he is finally able to sit just outside the board. When getting a good look at the board, all his memories, including ones that he had been dreaming of nightly, come rushing to his mind, and he collapses, waking up in his room again. This time he decides to do something different and journeys to Kotori's secret base, where he finds the remnants of her monster moulds, to Lucia's orphanage, where he finds a statue covered in cloth resembling her, to Akane's club room, where he finds shikigami on the table, to Sizuru's old house, where he finds saury being grilled, and finally to Chihaya's large terrace house, where he finds the necklace he bought for her lying on a table. Following that, Kotarou goes back to the hill. After watching Kagari's research hit a brick wall, he wonders if he could do something to help her, and goes back to his house, where he makes coffee and brings to her. Time passes by quickly, and as Kagari drinks her first cup and declines seconds, Kotarou is reminded of the old Kagari, who would scoff at "such muddy liquid" made by "an insignificant human". Following three cups of coffee, Kagari pulls him gently onto the board, and Kotarou realizes that he loves Kagari and sobs freely that she has accepted him.

Épisode 2 - Honeymoon Over a Silent Ocean

21 janvier 2017 - 5/5

Everyday, without fail, Kotarou brings coffee to Kagari and sits by her as she researches. Kotarou also notices that as Kagari continuously researches, she gets more and more worn out, but he cannot stop her. Knowing that trying to research along would just kill him, Kotarou rewrites his awareness and comprehension skills to read the information. Despite that, however, he still collapses, blabbering information, and wishes aloud to go wherever Kagari goes. With his body cloaked in shadow, Kotarou flies through the universe, all the while searching for her, finding the element of love instead, in the form of a deep red ball of energy. Continuing his flight, Kotarou ascends but finds that he has reached the farthest point that a human can go, and he can only stay there and never go back. Kagari uses her ribbons and pulls him downwards instead, where he espies a roaring flame that he recognizes is the source of the ribbon and Kagari's beacon. Kotarou wakes up to find himself in her arms, and thanks her for saving him. With that, Kotarou tries again to help read it and is successful, now with love spurring him on. He realizes that the board is actually a tree-shaped list of super-dense information that illustrates the theory of life from the beginning of time, when the first forms of life were called "Aurora", which means "omnipotent power" or "miracle". Aurora is also the power that thrives in the planet, which aids in the creation of life and the Key, existing solely to end the civilization it has created, only to re-create the universe through a process called re-evolution, or the recycling of life. Kotarou then leaves Kagari to rest for a bit, and in the city, encounters a monster with the voice of Sakura asking him for the Key. The monster then disappears, and Kotarou freezes in shock. The next day, he goes to meet Kagari, only to not find her there. Sitting down comfortably on the board, he continues reading, where he gleans facts about evolution. When reaching his hand to touch the board, memories come to him again, but Kotarou remains conscious. With a shock, Kotarou realizes that the many branches are all his past lives, which also represent the many paths humanity could possibly take. All the information then rushes into Kotarou, and he awakens to find Kagari's voice narrating the many information tonelessly, like a robot. Kotarou yells to know the answer to whatever is life, and access a file of top secret information, where he collapses and begins slashing at everything in sight. Kagari, holding two cans of coffee, kills him again, this time regretfully. Following that, Kotarou takes Kagari out on a date, where he uses his newly enhanced powers to create the illusion of music, formal attire, and other couples. Suddenly, the monster appears, and Kagari's ribbons appear to be ineffective against it, so Kotarou kills it to protect her. To his horror, Kotarou suddenly burns with a desire to kill Kagari, as more monsters appear. Kotarou kills them all, but knowing that he cannot protect Kagari alone, summons his friends.

Épisode 3 - The Truth Nobody Knows

28 janvier 2017 - 4.7/5

While Haruhiko and his gang battle monsters in the city, Kotarou meets up with Akane, Chihaya, Kotori, Lucia and Sizuru on the hill of daisies, where he assigns them various roles in protecting Kagari, also giving them weaponry. Lucia and Sizuru get their swords back, Kotori earns two identical versions of Chibi-Moth, save for the color, Chihaya gets a heavy wooden log, and Akane receives a feathered parrot to survey the battlefield and communicate with the others. For the first battle against Sakura, the group is successful, and the Occult Research Society discuss their views on humanity's harm on the planet. The five girls also reveal to Kotarou that they cannot see Kagari, but can sense her presence. Following that, Kotarou leaves a sticky note on the theory board to mark his wish to go with Kagari, and Kagari completes her research by using it as a point that the theory can surround and focus on. Crying, she is engulfed into a huge flower bulb, and the next wave of monsters arrive, now stronger in both numbers and power than ever before. With the exception of Kotarou, everyone else dies, but Sakuya reappears through gathering all his past selves together, and they kill the monsters. In the end, both the armies of monsters, Sakuya and Kotarou die together. The process of re-evolution then kicks in, but Kagari stays on the Moon, where she thanks Kotarou for giving her fond memories of humankind to endure loneliness, and bids him farewell forever. Kotarou then wishes aloud for someone, someday, to find "the girl on the Moon", and ease her loneliness.

Épisode 4 - Earth-Saving Hunter

4 février 2017 - 5/5

This episode marks the beginning of the exploration into Kotarou's past, as it is shown that he was naturally born with his Rewrite and Aurora powers, only with the exception that instead of gleaming green blades, the blades are knives formed from his own blood and are thus red. It is also shown that Kotarou was a violent, unsociable individual, and had brief encounters with Haruhiko, Akane, and Kotori, all of whom are still children. He also runs into Esaka and his men, who rescue him from monsters and lie about Guardian. Kotarou's parents worked for Martel, or Gaia, and forced Kotarou to attend their seminars. There, he meets a young orphanage caretaker named Fuku Iko, who enlists his help in taking care of a young Akane who cannot speak properly. He also inspires Haruhiko to be a delinquent after punching some bullies and returning his satchel. While Akane and Haruhiko look up to him, Kotori, his new neighbor, despises him as she hates violence. Like all the other families, Kotori is also made to attend Gaia's seminars, which she refuses, and her parents give her a mangy abused dog to look after as the price for not going. Despite much love and attention, the dog, Pero, dies. While Kotori still dislikes him, Kotarou is inspired by her to quit Gaia.

Épisode 5 - Superhuman Qualities

11 février 2017 - 5/5

Even after making the decision to quit Gaia, Kotarou is still made to attend their seminars, and while doing so, has a brief chat with a younger Sakura per his parents' request. Feeling uncomfortable and insecure, he is offered a position in Guardian by Esaka, who simply explains that it serves as something of a shelter for stray superhumans, and also an organization that eliminates monsters. Deciding to join Guardian instead, Kotarou leaves home early next morning, and runs into the Kanbe family going on an outing together. In this short meeting, Kotori and Kotarou become friends, with Kotori making him promise to show her around the upcoming Harvest Festa, an annual event that celebrates spring. As they leave, Kotarou has a feeling that he should not let them go. He did not know it at the time, but Kotori's parents were to die in a car crash, and Kotori was to become a Druid by discovering the Mistletoe and thus reviving her parents as monsters and Pero as Chibi-Moth. At Guardian, Kotarou and many other superhumans train together to work their physical abilities, superhuman strengths, and knowledge of monsters. In almost all the challenges, Kotarou is ranked either last or near the bottom, and this makes him more determined to improve by training with Esaka. He joins a young Touka, Arata, and Tsukuno, the girl that was shown to push Sakura's future wheelchair, although she is now known as Nagai. Halfway through training, Nagai quits, but Kotarou, Arata and Touka stay on, and together, they graduate as a team to move on to their first real assignment that will take place in Kazamatsuri.

Épisode 6 - Forest of Tragedy

18 février 2017 - 5/5

Arata, Kotarou and Touka assume the roles of a hippie, businessman and high-school student respectively to guard forest perimeters. When the warning alarm signals the defeat of the elite team in the forest, Arata drags Touka along to help, determined to prove his mettle, and leaves Kotarou behind as he feels that Kotarou is useless. Dashing after them, Kotarou gets lost in the forest instead and meets Kagari. He attempts to kill her but fails and retreats despite Kagari not defending herself. He also finds a young Akane unable to get down from a tree and kills a monster threatening to eat her. He brings her back to Fuku before returning to Guardian, where he makes a request to Esaka for him to learn how to use a gun, determined to kill Kagari the next time he finds her,

Épisode 7 - Moving On from a Standstill

25 février 2017 - 5/5

Esaka brings Kotarou to a new training facility, likewise presided over by Guardian, where Kotarou begins training as a soldier. Things do not go well as he is bullied by the other superhumans there, believing his powers to be inferior to theirs. However, Kotarou still makes a new friend, the jolly, good-natured Luis. They have fun and spend time together during breaks or play with the poor children living in the neighbourhood, one of whom is Midou, who proves to be a mischievous, playful young boy. The two men also befriend and help the young but mature Yasmin look after them occasionally. In this fashion the days pass, but Kotarou feels he is still living in a standstill. Everything then changes when the soldiers are sent to raid a factory, only for Kotarou and Luis to find an immense monster they cannot defeat. Thinking fast, they search for the summoner but find the band of children instead, hiding in an attic. Luis is overcome with grief and shock when he accidentally shoots the children upon coming across them, and proceeds to rescue Yasmin, Midou and two other boys. In the process, Luis gives up his life to save the children, at the same time giving Kotarou the motivation to let his fears go and move on. Returning to Guardian's main headquarters, Kotarou reports everything to the commanders while covering up the children. Secretly, he also rents a home for the children to be kept safe, bringing back other children used as summoners and stray superhumans. These children were the result of Kotarou's pity for them as they were used by Gaia due to their poverty. In the end, Kotarou's missions in Kazamatsuri are complete and he bades goodbye to Yasmin and the children.

Épisode 8 - Reunion

4 mars 2017 - 5/5

Kotarou meets Kagari for the second time in the forest, and this time she makes contact with him by revealing her name. Kagari explains to Kotarou that only he can see her so he has to help her prevent Earth from falling into ruin, for this time there will be no re-evolution after destruction due to lack or resources. With a curt command to find fond memories of humankind that prevent conflict, Kagari sends him away. Pondering his chances, Kotarou decides that the main source of all these bad memories Kagari is accumulating up naturally for destruction come from the biggest conflict of all: Gaia and Guardian. Returning to Guardian, he reunites with Arata and Touka to glean special information, whereafter he journeys to Martel and joins Gaia as a summoner. Quickly, Kotarou excels at the art of monster-making and controlling and soon becomes an official member of Gaia, where he learns that Gaia is further divided into sub-groups belonging separately to Sakura and another man named Suzaki. Due to these divisions, Kotarou earns good contacts through Suzaki and returns to Kagari. However, she is very impatient and determined to raise her final judgement on Gaia and Guardian. In the end, Kotarou convinces her to trust him. Everything changes when he steps into Kotori's secret base and find Kotori, now three years older guarding Kagari as a Druid.

Épisode 9 - Battle Behind the Scenes

11 mars 2017 - 5/5

Kotarou continues to further deceive and delve deeper into Suzaki's Gaian faction, learning more about what the Key means to Suzaki and Sakura. It turns out that Suzaki is trying to import human life over to Gaia's monster storage room, an alternate dimension existing alongside Kazamatusuri known as the City of Stone. Not wishing to endanger his place, Kotarou pretends to wholeheartedly agree with Suzaki's ideas. However, Kotarou is soon called to a second meeting with Sakura. Feeling that she cannot be tricked, Kotarou tells a half-truth to Sakura and reports everything to Suzaki, who then uses this information to formulate a plan to overthrow Sakura. Returning to Kotori's secret base, Kotori and Kotarou quarrel again and Kotarou leaves in anger to find Kagari atop a hill of daisies. Their relationship slowly begins to worsen as Kagari does not understand the ways of the human heart, insisting that Kotarou has to hurry. Frustrated and tired, Kotarou bumps into Akane holding a tank of what appears to be dead monster beetles from Gaia. Bringing her back to the House of Ties orphanage, he encounters Nagai, now known as Tsukuno and with her memories erased. Kotarou also finds a young Chihaya who seems to be good friends with Akane. Later that day, when Suzaki prepares to put his plan into action, Sakura announces publicly that she has chosen her successor as the next Saint who is revealed to be none other than Akane herself, ruining all of Suzaki's plans and plunging Gaia into further turmoil. Thinking about Akane, Kotori, Yasmin and the children as well as his oath to himself for Luis not to die in vain, Kotarou declares to Kagari that he is willing to let the Earth fall into ruin if that means he gets to remain with his friends. Furious, Kagari commands the Salvation, only for Kotarou to kiss her and explains that he is serving her because he loves her. Even though the Salvation is halted, Kagari still angrily pulls away and runs into the forest.
