Two anglers discover a pile of corpses in a field near the polish border. The unimaginably high number of skeletons and animal carcasses leads the police to suspect a serial killer who has apparently been killing undetected for decades. Local detective inspector Roland Voit (Felix Kramer) is assigned to support the large LKA contingent in the Oderbruch. His former childhood sweetheart, former policewoman Maggie Kring (Karoline Schuch), is also called to her home town of Krewlow. After years of silence, Maggie and Roland are anything but impartial. Maggie is following her own investigations. She left Krewlow in 1997 after her brother became a victim of the historic Oder flood at the age of 17. The ex-policewoman doubts everything she knows - including the death of her brother Kai.

The large LKA contingent is searching for a serial killer in Krewlow and hopes to get a clue from the only survivor found on the pile of corpses. However, the seriously injured man is unresponsive. For the village doctor Frank Seeger (Torsten Ranft), it is clear that "Pulver-Paul" (André M. Hennicke) is behind the bloody deeds. The gun-crazy hermit is holed up on his farm and obsessively believes he has to defend himself against overpowering enemies. When Roland Voit (Felix Kramer) and Stanislaw Zajak (Lucas Gregorowicz) want to interrogate him, a life-threatening confrontation ensues. Meanwhile, Maggie (Karoline Schuch) is staying with Adrian Demko (Jan Krauter), her childhood friend who is in a wheelchair. She is convinced that the key to the Oderbruch serial murders lies in their shared past.

In a mysterious vault beneath the pile of corpses, the police units discover not only more bones, but also a jar of water with leeches. The seemingly insignificant find awakens the memory of Kai, Maggie's missing brother, in Roland Voit (Felix Kramer) and Maggie Kring (Karoline Schuch). Kai was an extraordinary, mysterious boy. Maggie simply cannot and will not believe that he is no longer alive and now hopes to have found proof of this. She asks Adrian Demko (Jan Krauter) for help. Adrian has been in a wheelchair since a terrible accident in their youth, when an unexploded bomb from the Second World War exploded. He instructs his carer Marek Gorski (Adrian Topol) to accompany Maggie on a trip across the border to Poland. The trail leads them to a mysterious building in the border area - where Maggie is assassinated.

Poland, summer 1990: ten-year-old Kai (Edgar Emil Garde) has been taken to safety by his mother Minna (Uta Janietz) to stay with Polish friends. His father Arthur (Stefan Weinert) wants to kill him because he suspects that Kai has a sinister tendency. His sister Maggie (Alix Heyblom) fearlessly stands up for Kai and has to protect him from other children. A fight breaks out on the way to school, in which the leader Conradi (Bennet Mai) is seriously injured and Maggie is knocked unconscious. Kai swears to his father that he will never tell Maggie the truth about himself. A sinister man (Liliom Lewald) also knows that the introverted boy is special. He seeks Kai out and offers him the chance to live with his "real" family.

Maggie (Karoline Schuch) was right: Kai (Julius Gause) is alive! The siblings hide together in the abandoned forest hut. Kai's confession that he has many people on his conscience upsets Maggie just as much as his seemingly unimaginable explanation. After an attempted assassination, they are both in constant danger. Maggie turns to Voit (Felix Kramer) - without telling him that her brother is alive or revealing anything about his involvement in the series of crimes. Meanwhile, Voit's colleague Zajak (Lucas Gregorowicz) deciphers a mysterious document left behind by the survivor of the pile of corpses before his death. On the Polish side, schoolgirl Ilona (Nicola Magdalena Lüders) makes an eerie discovery. Something is wrong at the secluded boarding school for street children and runaways. Blood donations are compulsory, girls are disappearing and sinister men are coming and going.

She wants to give her brother the chance to work together to find the people behind the unimaginable crimes and make amends. In order to stop the series of crimes, the ex-policewoman sets out in search of the key figure: the "Great Hunter". A trail leads back to 1947, when two men came under suspicion of having committed gruesome murders. One of the suspects was Maggie's now 90-year-old father Arthur (Volkmar Kleinert), the other disappeared a long time ago. Together with Roland (Felix Kramer), Maggie uncovers a disturbing family secret.

In Romania, however, they initially come up against a wall of silence. Roland Voit (Felix Kramer) follows Maggie's tracks, even though he has been suspended from the case. He discovers the body of a dead teenager in the forest hut. When his Polish colleague Stanislaw Zajak (Lucas Gregorowicz) tracks him down, Voit has no choice but to play his cards close to his chest. Zajak entrusts him with a theory about similar unsolved and mysterious murders in other countries and forces Voit to help find Kai.

Two years after the unexplained discovery of bodies in the Oderbruch region: Maggie and Kai Kring are determined to bring justice to their cause and are relentlessly hunting their own kind. In Norway, they kill a "Great Hunter" of the Strigoi Order. However, they are also the hunted themselves – the suspended investigator Stanislaw Zajak is still on their trail. He wants to prove that vampires are killing undetected all over the world to satisfy their bloodlust! Quito of the Strigoi is also after Maggie, because she is the only hope for the survival of their kind. Maggie is hiding from her brother that she has a daughter who is studying in Spain. But Zajak knows that he must find Vera as bait to capture the Kring siblings…

In the no-man's-land "Terra Azul," a baby is born to an enslaved servant in a mysterious Strigoi mountain monastery. But this once again dashed the hopes of the ruler Ion, who wants to ensure the survival of the vampires, because the baby is human and therefore useless to the Strigoi. To capture Maggie, Ion's son Quito sets a trap for her: He sends his henchman Delgado to the Krings' next target: the "Great Hunter" Cristóbal, who lives in Spain and kidnaps tourists to obtain fresh blood. Kai is unaware of his sister's true reason for her journey: Maggie wants to see her daughter Vera, at least from afar! To get money, they rob a betting shop. The plan goes awry, however, and puts them both in danger.

"Terra Azul": At the Strigoi monastery, the cunning Abbot Fedor learns of Quito's secret plan. Quito intends to seize power as soon as he has Maggie in his grasp. Fedor forces Quito's loyal servant to confide in him. Meanwhile, Maggie's bloodlust develops into an insatiable addiction that she can barely control. Her brother Kai urges them to eliminate the hunter Cristóbal before his captured "blood donors" die. Zajak manages to gain Vera's trust. He plans to use a trick to ascertain whether she harbors the same secret as her mother. Maggie, meanwhile, learns that the Strigoi know about her daughter, who is now in grave danger.

While Vera marvels at her astonishing healing powers, Stanislaw Zajak now realizes—the young woman carries her mother's vampire genes! Maggie is beside herself with anger and worry for her daughter. She knows she can't even fully trust her brother Kai. Nevertheless, the two set off together to rescue Vera from the Strigoi. At the music academy, they encounter Quito, Delgado, and Fayez, who are heavily armed. But Maggie, Kai, and Vera manage to escape with Stanislaw's help. At the Strigoi monastery, Quito's servant must protect her daughter Sophie from the Order's clutches. Now, the brutal ruler Ion also learns that some members of the Order are plotting a conspiracy behind his back.

Quito openly opposes his father, Ion. He wants to lead the Order into a new era to prevent the extinction of vampires. But Ion brutally demonstrates his power. Quito's time is running out: He must capture Maggie and Vera to save his family. Maggie and Kai receive a farewell letter from their deceased parents. They learn of the whereabouts of Vera's grandmother, Veronika, who vanished without a trace 40 years ago. Hoping to hide with her, Maggie and Vera set off for Andorra with Zajak. Meanwhile, Vera struggles to adjust to her new life. No one suspects that they are in a trap set by Quito.

Quito's trap snaps shut. He tries to win Kai and Vera over to his revolutionary plans. To save his family, he must deliver them to his father, Ion. Maggie, who managed to escape, is desperate: How will she find her daughter, who is in the clutches of the globally scattered Order? Together with Stanislaw Zajak, she follows the clues described in ancient texts to the monastery, which is said to lie in "no man's land." When they arrive in "Terra Azul," the Strigoi gathering is in full swing. Quito's mysterious plan culminates in a dramatic battle for Vera.
