Épisode 1 - Het Verzoek
9 février 1988
Dr. Paul van der Voort announces his retirement and will choose either Jan vd Woude or Eric Koning to replace him for the time being. Nurse Nelleke is pregnant, which reminds head nurse Reini that it's too late for her to have children. An elderly patient , Mrs Oudenaar, asks the medical staff to let her die peacefully.

Reini takes the blame for performing euthanasia on Mevr. Oudenaar. When a beat up woman is brought into MCW, domestic violence is suspected. Eric gets a job offer from his father Leo Koning.

Paul meets his son Joost and Joost's mother Merel meets Paul's wife Agnes. Jan's school friend Alex is having heart problems. Jan suspects it has less to do with his work than with his down syndrome son.

Paul van der Voort has decided to stay on for a while longer. Simon has fallen in love with Liza, but she doesn't want to leave her husband Peter. Two young men are brought in after fighting over which one of them is the father of a soon to be born baby. Nelleke goes into early labor.

Thomas is dying and Irene has found out he was having an affair with her own sister. Despite being guarded by a police officer, young criminal Evert Smit manages to escape from MCW.

Evert Smit returns to MCW with a shot wound and a similarly wounded police officer. Eric tries to blackmail De Bak concerning the latter's gambling problems. Irene, now a widow, decides to move to Australia.

Herman Ploegstra has accidentally been shot dead in a skirmish with the police. He is replaced by Guus Tolhuis. Reini's friend Marja Groeneveld is taken into MCW. Eva suspects patient Bert Postema has been beating his son.

Paul wants to marry Merel while there is still time for hem to be together. Suzanne asks Pieter to move in with her, despite her long standing fear of men. But then she is assaulted by a stranger in the basement of her own flat.

Paul and Merel have decided to move to Portugal. This means either Eric or Jan can take his place, but neither of them have the means to afford this. Ingrid is suspicious of Eva's interest in Jan. Marja Groeneveld has lost the will to live.

Simon is suffering heart trouble. Ingrid gives Eva her blessing to begin an affair with Jan. When comatose Adriaan Schapers dies by suffocation, his brother Koos becomes the prime suspect. Eric is supplying patient Patricia Keizer with drugs to keep her quiet. Suzanne has spotted her stalker in MCW and wants Pieter to follow him.

Liza and Dr. Berghof operate on Simon's heart. Eva and Jan have fallen for each other. Suzanne's stalker has given himself away, but the police still don't take her accusations seriously. Eric confesses his adultery to Ellen.

Suzanne is awaiting trial for bashing Johan's head in when he tried to rape Ingrid. Her psychiatrist Vera Zomer tries to get proof Suzanne was the victim of incest when she was young. Bas hacks into the hospital computer and finds out Sonja is HIV positive, which she has been keeping secret

Paul & Merel return from Portugal because she feels her end is near. Tessa challenges Reini's authority by implementing new measures. Antoine goes into a depression during his latest treatment. His father offers to travel to America with him. Eric gets into more trouble when he agrees to help Putman with another money making scheme.

Barry Putman has kidnapped Elsje Kalkhoven for ransom and has made Eric Koning his accomplice. Marijke Rodenburg is carrying a baby for her sister Frederieke but is now having second thoughts. Daniël urges his dying mother to tell him who his father is. Reini accepts Dick's marriage proposal.

Daniël finally finds out the identity of his father. Tessa is reunited with Johan Hofstede who has served his prison sentence for a failed bank robbery. Nels marriage to Jaap goes through another dip when she invites Robin to perform at Reini & Dick's wedding. Eric is now Putman's hostage together with Elsje.

Medisch Centrum West has been forced to fuse with het PolderZiekenhuis, leading to a shortage of beds and a surplus of staff. Selma and Guus look set to lose their jobs. Sonja wants to operate again despite being HIV positive. Reini's estranged sister Vronie has been hospitalized. Els is facing a divorce from Jaap, who want to emigrate to the States. Paul van der Voort seeks to reinstate Jan van der Wouden, who is currently working as a waiter, at MCW.

Vronie insists that Reini takes over part of the family printing business. Paul offers to finance a job for Jan at MCW. Sonja's case against MCW is going to court: she demands to be reinstated as a surgeon, or to receive a million guilders. Homeless Truus keeps sneaking back into the hospital, until the nurses finally decide to give her an unpaid job.

Paul manages to convince Victor to hire Jan if he puts up the money. But during his first week back, Jan's wife Eva is hit by a car right in front of MCW. Astrid's son Bobby is diagnosed with leukemia.

Jan might lose custody of his son Christiaan to his sister in law Miriam. Sonja's lawyer Bert Helenberg investigates the zero positive witness that his opponent Evertsen came up with. Astrid suspects her son's illness might have been caused by chemical waste.

The nurses station is burgled during the night watch. Marijke Rodenburg, who has been carrying a child for her sister and brother in law, gives birth prematurely. But when the child turns out to be sickly, her sister, who has managed to get pregnant herself, has second thoughts about the baby. Theo Dekker refuses to give up on his comatose wife or even to leave her side, even though everyone else thinks she will never recover.

Alberts is concerned about Brouwer's integrity. Dick is worried about Reini's drinking. Jacob refuses to disclose the ingredients of the experimental medicine he used on Bobby.

When Joy's half brother is brought in with a knife wound, Tessa and Ingrid immediately recognize him as one of the burglars that have recently had it in for MCW. While Victor and Liza grow closer together, her working relationship between her and Simon gets steadily worse.

Joy's half brother says he wants to go straight, but Tessa remains skeptical. The Commision reviews the working relationship between Simon and Liza. Alberts is setting a trap for Victor Brouwer and pressures Jan to provide evidence.

A baby has been stolen from the maternity ward and Nel decides to investigate Yvonne Wijland. Ingrid has convinced Jan to take a holiday to Aruba with her. Eric help Simon to clear his name and Maurice to catch Victor red handed.

Victor Brouwer has been thrown in jail on suspicion of murdering patients. But he claims to have done so only with their written permission and has Maurice Alberts arrested for encouraging the Harmsen family to set a trap. Jan and Ingrid decide to start living together following their holiday in Aruba. An aging patient who used to be a vaudeville performer is encouraged to perform at the hospital by a young roommate.

Seriously ill Joop Stevens refuses to be operated on nor will he allow a visit from his half brother Martijn Oomen. Ingrid is almost robbed of her purse in a shopping center but still insists on helping the two homeless delinquents.

Jan has managed to get an experimental Aids medicine to be tested on Sonja but Stefan Volkel and Leo Koning are not sure the medicine should be released yet. Liza is angling to learn more about Victor's secretive past.

While Jan and Ingrid start planning their wedding they learn more about Mirna's troubled past. Tessa is very jealous of Joy spending so much time with Simon. Eric's job is already on the line and this is made worse when a mistake on his part is found by Jan. Liza is pregnant with Victor's child.

Sonja requests to be treated with Dr. Huizinga's experimental medicine, despite Hugo's disapproval. Volkel & Koning ask Eric to sabotage the medicine, for which Jan will be blamed. Victor is not pleased to find out Liza has gotten pregnant without discussing it with him. All this transpires on Jan & Ingrid's wedding day.

Sonja has died. Eric is told to get rid of all the evidence and point all the blame towards Jan. Liza insists on visiting Victor's grown up autistic son Roelant. Lucie, who is working as a doctors assistant, proves to have a problem with authority. Guus has hit a female colleague with his car and is feeling responsible. This leads to questions from his boyfriend.

Jan loses his right to practice on account of the experimental medicine he used on Sonya.

Rape victim Vita refuses to press charges because she is afraid of her husband/pimp Leo Zwart. Vronie has an out of body experience when she has a heart attack. Victor realizes his cancer may have come from bottled up frustration concerning his son Roelant. Little Christiaan has a heart problem and needs to be operated on.

Joy's former classmate Suzan is afraid to tell her father that she is raising a child on her own, so Joy and Nel ask Robin to pose as Suzan's boyfriend. Jan and Ingrid are very nervous about Christiaan's operation. Reini is going through menopause and thinks Dick might be having an affair. Tessa has a date with Leo Zwart to find out more about him, and gets a job offer from him.

Marcel has been beaten up by one of Leo Zwart's goons. Guus is surprised to learn Marcel married to one of Zwart's girls to get her a permit. Ispired by positive thinking, Victor asks Dick not to take away all of a terminal patient's hope of recovery. Reini admits to herself that she has a drinking problem.

Jan has found out the name of the insecticide that killed Sonja and asks Eric to help him find out whee it came from. Dick decides to move out of Reini's place. Ingrid's father becomes paralyzed after suffering an unexpected stroke.

Reini & Dick's marriage deteriorates. Nel & Robin have trouble sustaining their relationship as well. Jan suspects Eric may have been involved in Sonja's death. Tessa finds it more dangerous dealing with Leo Zwart than expected.

Reini immediately has misgivings after sleeping with Thijs. In order to save his own hide, Stefan Volkel is prepared to sacrifice Eric Koning. Ingrid discovers her father had an affair and an illegitimate child. Liza goes into premature labor. Tessa and Simon decide to go to Africa together.

Ingrid has complications with her pregnancy and her parents appear to know why. Victor decides not to have Roelant operated on and takes him into his own home. The investigation of Vera's disappearance points to a known pedophile.

Astrid witnesses a young track runner collapsing and soon discovers she has been using steroids. Victor is advised to take some time of following the death of his son Roelant. Reini implements a stop on admitting new patience because of the staff shortage. Nel confronts the last person who saw her daughter before her disappearance, Jan Liebrechts.

Jan becomes very suspicious when Eric diagnoses a patient with terminal cancer when just months before nothing could be found. Ingrid identifies herself with a patient suffering problems of the womb who might be a DES baby like herself.

Jan forces Eric to resign his job. Nel has lost all hope of ever seeing Vera again. Alberts hires a new doctor to replace Victor - Baron A.J. Hoekstra van Walgraven, who turns out to be a male chauvinist.

Nel finds out Vera has been taken to America to be with her father. Arend-Jan wants a private practice with financial help from Maurice Alberts and Eric Koning. Two seriously ill young men become fast friends when they share a room.

A pregnant woman ends up in MCW after her father pushed her down a flight of stairs. Liza is immediately suspicious about the family relationship. Reini is surprised to find Lucy working for Eric at the grand opening of MedCo.

Reini is surprised to learn that Hetty, with whom she has been sharing her home, is a lesbian. Astrid brings in a young girl with many bruises. Both parents blame each other for beating the child.

Ingrid's court case against the manufacturer of DES begins. Dick thinks his relationship with Reini has always been difficult because she might have preferred women all along. The rivalry between MCW and MedCo deepens.

Three people, including a pregnant woman, are hospitalized because of a gas leak at a local factory. After appearing on local television, Liza is offered a job presenting a medical programme. Dick is leaving for America and Hetty is moving out, just as Reini realizes she has feelings for both of them.

Jan is upset about all the blunders being made at MedCo. But he also starts to show feelings towards Astrid, which is exactly what Ingrid had been fearing. Liza begins her Television career presenting 'Rechten Op Antwoord'.

A mother loses her son Bart in an accident and grows attached to another child who receives Bart's heart in a transplant. Annelies Rietschoten is being urged by her husband and child to stop working.

Mirna, the troubled young girl whom Ingrid used to take care of is back in MCW. Annelies wants a divorce from her possessive husband Joep. Liza is displeased that Victor is helping out at work again.

Liza is taken by the plight of a seriously ill baby boy and decides to devote an episode of her TV show to his case. But when Eric turns the show into another commercial for MedCo, she resigns. Jan is back with Ingrid, but also seeing Astrid behind her back.

Joy is shocked to learn William Stevens is selling babies from foreign women to Dutch couples at MedCo. Anke meets a man who used to be a prisoner of the Japanese during World War II, just like her father.

When a heart patient dies thanks to William Steven's incompetence, Jan vows to bring down MedCo once and for all. But in private he is still cheating on Ingrid with Astrid. Reini helps a young mother deal with her drug addict boyfriend.

Ingrid has just lost her close friend Hetty when she learns that Jan chooses for Astrid who's is pregnant by him. That night, both Jan and Astrid are shot, and Jan dies. The murder weapon turns out to belong to Eric.

Ingrid is in jail, being the main suspect of Jan's murder. Joy and Eric are reinstated at MCW, though none of the others welcome the latter. Astrid and Marielle concern themselves about a young woman from Croatia. Reini welcomes Paul van der Voort into her home when his son Joost is admitted to MCW with an indeterminable illness.

Arend-Jan and Marielle are both bidding on his family's former stately home. Astrid discovers who Jan's real killer is and that she was the intended victim. Reini offers a place to stay for the recently divorced Annemarie and her daughter Kim.

The rivalry between the sons of Arend-Jan and Marielle gets stronger. Dick asks Annemarie out to dinner. Paul van der Voort has to be admitted to a home so he can be properly cared for.

Liza is having an affair with Bert Helenberg. Joy has fallen for Arend-Jan, despite his discriminating remarks. A patient suspected of taking an overdose of sleeping pills refuses to admit he took any.

Annemarie is afraid to tell Dick about her illness. Ingrid doesn't dare tell Victor that she's pregnant by Bert now that his illness is acting up again. Arend-Jan is furious when he hears his son participated in a in a violent riot at the Walgraven estate.

Little Christiaan visits Ingrid at MCW, but still has to go back to his foster parents. John Hoekstra ends up in a coma after a botched drug deal. His father Arend-Jan suspects Sham Abid. Victor is dying, but asks Liza to marry him while they still can.

Ingrid and Arend-Jan suspect Christiaan may be being mistreated by his foster parents. Astrid concerns herself about a homeless woman called Simone. Annemarie is given different work at MCW and tells Dick she's not in love with him.

A tumor is found in Reini's breast. Sham tries to commit suicide in a jail cell. Homeless Simone reveals the secret of her years of pain to her former best friends. Jeffrey also has a confession to make to his mother Marielle.

Reini's tumor has already spread into several body parts. John finally awakens from his coma. Victor is ready to die and has peace with Liza being with Bert when he'll be gone.

Reini gave up a daughter for adoption when she herself was just 16. Now that she has breast cancer, she asks Dick to help her find the now 35 year old Froukje. Roos is pregnant with Guus's child, but his gay friend Rob tries to make him doubt his sexual preference. Liza finds it hard to cope with the reactions of her colleague concerning her unfaithfulness to the late Victor Brouwer. Arend-Jan asks Joy to come and live with him and John.

Eric announces his and Ingrid wedding in public, and tells Dick to stop the experiment on Reini privately. However, Dick's gen experiment appears to work for Reini thanks to a hormone shot. The marital troubles of a couple grow worse when she has to have a breast amputated.
Épisode 15 - Epidemie

Arend-Jan manages to prove that Christiaan's foster parents are inadequate. This causes Ingrid to call of her wedding to Eric at the altar. Leo Koning convinces Eric to steal Dick's gen-experiment. But when he breaks some flasks during the burglary, dangerous chemicals are released and threaten to infect the entire hospital.
