En l'an 12 de l'ère Taishô (1923), des vampires ont fait leur apparition à la nuit tombée dans les rues de Tokyo. Afin de rallier ou capturer ces ancestrales et insaisissables créatures qui profitent de l'obscurité pour se repaître du sang des humains, l'armée a créé une escouade composée essentiellement de vampires : la 16e Unité Spéciale surnommée « Code Zero ». Sous la direction du lieutenant général Nakajima Sônosuke, le colonel Maeda Yoshinobu et ses hommes, Kurusu Shûtarô, Yamagami Tokuichi, Suwa et Takeuchi, vont affronter les vampires qui errent sous le ciel nocturne.
