Back in Sicily after losing his job at the Ministry of the Interior, Saverio Lamanna, a journalist with a passion for investigations, settles in his family's holiday home, in Màkari. Here the man finds an old childhood friend, the bizarre Piccionello, and begins to attend the beautiful Suleima. But to reawaken it are the death of a child, which took place in unclear circumstances and the drama of a worker who ended up on the street after years of hard work. These two cases help him to rediscover in him the vocation for writing and for unsolved mysteries.

Short of money, Saverio finds himself having to accept a job as a guide for a food and wine tour. And so he leaves, together with Piccionello, with a tourist bus to some Sicilian locations. But he soon realizes that in the group he is accompanying there is something strange: in that group of alleged friends terrible resentments and grudges intertwine. A veritable web of hatred surrounds only one man, Olmo, the arrogant leader of the group. Who dies mysteriously.

Franco Rizzo, former promise of the ball and cousin of Saverio, has died. A car accident, a tragedy. Suleima got the job in Milan. For her and Saverio the moment of greetings is approaching and the two must decide their future, together or not. Among other things, Suleima is very nervous and tense. He has a novelty, even more disruptive than the imminent separation, and it will not be easy to communicate it to his partner. To complicate these days there is also a new job that Saverio - due to the chronic shortage of money - cannot refuse: he is hired by the rich Flaminia De Simone to act as press agent for the film of his sister Gea, director and producer. The film participates in an important Sicilian festival and Saverio must leave immediately, together with Piccionello immediately at ease in the sparkling festival world.

Suleima has been living in Milan for a year and her relationship with Saverio is starting to suffer because of this distance. In fact, they haven't seen each other for a while, but there's a chance to meet again! Suleima will be in Sicily for a few days, for work, and Saverio will join her in Agrigento together with Piccionello. He doesn't want to miss this opportunity to hug her again, also because the girl arrives with her boss, Teodoro Bettini, a sort of demigod, of whom Saverio has been extremely jealous for a long time, and therefore he is also motivated by the desire to monitor the situation and mark his territory! In the meantime, in Agrigento, the body of Professor Demetrio Alù, a great archaeologist and top expert on the Temples, is found.

Suleima has returned to Sicily, but things between her and Saverio don't seem to be improving. And it's not just that Teodoro has also moved there, to direct the innovative project "La città del sole". Suleima seems more distant than before, she is increasingly taken up by her new life, that is, by the community that has gathered around "La città del sole". The fact is that Suleima is growing, she is changing and Saverio is afraid that all this will distance her irremediably from him. Also to distract himself a little from these anguishes, Saverio therefore accepts the offer of an old friend, Franco Pitrone, who invites him to a conference of "Onestà e Giustizia", an important association against organized crime.

A tragic event strikes Suleima and the entire community of ''La città del sole'': Teodoro Bettini, who had been missing for several hours, is found dead on the slopes of a hill, from which he fell. Saverio rushes to console and support Suleima. The police, in the meantime, seem determined to file the death away as a banal hiking accident, but Saverio, instead, begins to smell something and gets it into his head that it is a murder: Teodoro has been killed. But he is the only one who thinks so, so much so that all the kids of ''La città del sole'' begin to look at him with annoyance and suspicion...
