Sam Buckhart était un Indien Apache qui a sauvé la vie d'un officier de cavalerie américain après une embuscade indienne. À la mort de cet officier, il a laissé à Sam une somme qui avait été utilisée pour des études dans des écoles privées et à l’Université de Harvard. Après l'école, il est retourné au Nouveau-Mexique où il est devenu maréchal adjoint du maréchal Andy Morrison et réside dans une pension de famille dirigée par Martha Commager. Tess Logan est une orpheline sauvée par Buckhart et âgée de 8 ans.

Sam Buckhart must work as a Marshal for a town after the People's Committee hangs one of Zeb Derkson's men. Zeb Derkson is the leader of a gang who's making the town a haven for outlaws. Buckhart becomes suspicious of Derkson after one of the People's Committee members is murdered.
