Dans les années sombres de la dynastie des Jin, Liu Yu usurpe le trône afin de devenir l'empereur fondateur de la dynastie Liu Song. Le fils nouveau-né du consort Ye est le seul survivant de sang royal de cette purge et est adopté par le secrétaire impérial Fan Xian. Devenu adulte, Fan Xian est loué pour sa loyauté envers l'empereur mais il découvre qu'il est le fils biologique du souverain tyrannique et que les assassins de sa mère avaient été envoyés par Liu Yu. Pour se venger, mais aussi dans l'intérêt du royaume, Fan Xian s'engage dans un conflit politique avec l'empereur.

A modern university student pitches a novel where his protagonist awakens reborn as an infant in an ancient empire. Surviving a bloody assassination attempt with the help of a blind warrior named Wu Zhu, the child, Fan Xian, is hidden away in Danzhou. He grows up diligently practicing martial arts and learns the deadly art of poison from a quirky teacher named Fei Jie.

After surviving a poisoning attempt, Fan Xian discovers his grandmother's past indifference was a ruse to expose those plotting against him. Realising that staying in Danzhou puts his family in danger, he bids farewell and departs for the capital to uncover the truth. Before leaving, Wu Zhu gives him a mysterious box left by his mother, noting that the key to open it is hidden somewhere in the city.

Upon arriving in the capital, Fan Xian quickly encounters a swindler selling fake maps named Wang Qinian. He then visits the Qing Temple, where he has a magical encounter with a beautiful girl holding a chicken leg under an altar table. They share an instant connection but are separated before they can exchange names, leaving Fan Xian completely smitten.

Fan Xian officially enters the Fan Manor and meets his calculating stepmother and his initially hostile younger half brother, Fan Sizhe. He quickly diffuses the family tension by appealing to his brother's love of money and business. Later, he finally meets his father, Fan Jian, who reveals the true political reasons behind Fan Xian's summons to the capital and his arranged marriage.

He discovers that the swindler Wang Qinian actually works there as a clerk and forces him to help with the investigation. The records suggest Guo Baokun is responsible for the family's demise, prompting Fan Xian to plan a stealthy revenge mission.

Une saison 2 dans la même veine que la première, j'ai beaucoup aimé cette fois encore. Vivement le retour de Fan Xian avec la saison 3 🙂
