Japon, 2019, à l’aube d’une nouvelle ère. Un portail vers une autre dimension est soudainement apparu dans le ciel. De l’autre côté se trouve le monde alternatif « Shinkoku Nippon », un monde au sein duquel ciel et terre semblent inversés. Dans cet univers parallèle, le Japon est resté à l’ère Showa et a conservé l’ancien système militaire. Très vite, les soldats de cet autre monde envahissent le Japon réel avec des robots humanoïdes géants et leurs armes spéciales nommées Genmu, capables de rendre inefficaces nos armes modernes. En un éclair, Shinkoku Nippon s’empare du pouvoir et réalise une conquête du Japon. Dix ans plus tard, le Japon renait en tant que nation vassale des nouveaux conquérants. En raison de l’importante censure mise en place, les mangas, les animes et les idoles, qui était autrefois au centre de la culture du pays, ont complètement disparu.
