Dans le royaume féodal et magique de Valiante, des hommes et des femmes succombent parfois aux démons en commettant des atrocités afin d'obtenir davantage de pouvoir, abandonnant ainsi leur humanité pour se transformer en entités maléfiques, connues sous le nom d'Horrors. Depuis la nuit des temps, un ordre secret agit pour combattre et détruire ces démons à travers le monde : les Chevaliers et les Prêtres Makai. Les Chevaliers possèdent le pouvoir d’invoquer des armures pour les aider dans leur lutte, tandis que les Prêtres les assistent grâce à divers enchantements. Néanmoins, cet ordre se retrouve en grand péril le jour où le maléfique Mendoza, grand prêtre du royaume, déclare la chasse aux sorcières contre les Chevaliers. Lors de l’exécution sur le bûcher d’une femme accusée de sorcellerie, celle-ci met au monde un nouveau-né sauvé in extremis des flammes par son père Herman Luis, un Chevalier Makai. Seize années passent, et Herman a élevé l’enfant qu’il a sauvé, Leon, pour en faire un Chevalier Makai, celui-ci ayant hérité de sa mère l’armure d’or de Garo. Ensemble, père et fils parcourent le monde pour lutter contre les Horrors et l’influence grandissante de Mendoza qui de son côté ourdit un complot afin de s’emparer du royaume de Valiante…
