Il y a 15 ans, le Roi du Mal Hadora tenta de s'emparer du monde des humains, mais il fut vaincu par un valeureux héros et ses frères d'armes. Après sa défaite, les monstres à sa solde devinrent pacifiques et le monde retrouva la paix. L'île Demurin est aujourd'hui peuplée uniquement de monstres, à l'exception de Fly, un jeune garçon survivant d'un naufrage et qui fut recueilli par le sage Burasu. Celui-ci espère lui apprendre la magie afin que Fly puisse un jour aider le Héros si le monde devait se retrouver à nouveau en pleine guerre. Mais Fly n'est pas doué pour la magie et préfère s'entraîner à l'épée en cachette et gambader sur l'île avec son ami Gome, un slime doré possédant des ailes. Les premiers contacts de Fly avec les humains sont plutôt tendus : des brigands se faisant passer pour des héros débarquent sur Demurin, attaquent les monstres et enlèvent Gome. Fly les traque alors jusqu'au Royaume de Romusu afin de retrouver son ami. Plus tard, Leona, la princesse du Royaume de Papunika arrive à son tour sur l'île, escortée par des prêtres et des soldats qui doivent l'aider à accomplir la cérémonie qui la fera devenir un grand sage. Mais ces prêtres la trahissent et intentent à sa vie. Elle est précipitée avec Fly au creux d'un volcan, c'est là que pour la première fois, le signe du dragon apparaît sur le front de Fly, révélant une force immense. Grâce à ce signe, il parvient à vaincre les traîtres et à sauver la princesse. Mais l'histoire de Fly ne commence réellement que lorsque la nouvelle se répand que le Roi du Mal est ressuscité. Au même moment arrive sur Demurin Alban, un maître en armes et en incantations, et son disciple Poppu, qui suit un entraînement à la magie. Alban convainc rapidement Fly de suivre un entraînement infernal pour devenir un grand Héros, mais au milieu de l'entraînement, Hadora débarque pour se venger d'Alban qui se révèle être le Héros qui le tua 15 ans auparavant, av
