Lorsqu’un junkie débarque au centre entre d’assistance médicale et d’aide à la réinsertion de Melbourne, Spencer MacKay, un officier de probation doit s'occuper de son cas. Le jeune déliquant vient de purger douze mois de prison pour avoir provoqué la mort dans un accident de la circulation de la femme et du fils du psychiatre. Trouvant la peine insuffisante et estimant les services judiciaires laxistes, MacKay s’interroge sur la nécessité de se faire lui-même justice. Jusqu’à ce que le toxicomane soit retrouvé mort, une seringue dans le bras, dans les toilettes du centre...

Psychiatrist Spence Mackay is struggling to cope after the loss of his wife and son in a car accident. But what if their deaths were not accidental? And what is really lurking under the surface of Canal Road, the medical institute where he works? All of these thoughts come bubbling to the surface with the arrival of Greg Manor to the Canal Road clinic. Manor was the one responsible for the deaths of Spence's family, and upon seeing him takes matters into his own hands. But what chilling statement will Manor mutter that will make Spence's blood run cold?

After Holly saves a traumatised drug addict, Tracey, from her violent parolee boyfriend, Colin, she finds herself the target of a frightening stalking campaign, and suspects it too be the smooth, but violent, Jack Logan. Spence receives a series of security camera photos of himself, including one of him and Greg Manor, from an anonymous source. A threat or a warning? His inability to track down the sender of the photos renders him unable to find out more about Ellen and Toby's mysterious deaths.
