Face à l'invasion de l'Empire galactique, le gouvernement de Morningstar n'a pas le choix : la rébellion. Et pour mettre toutes les chances de leur côté, les membres du gouvernement optent pour la légalisation des pirates, qui pourraient ainsi attaquer les vaisseaux ennemis… Un siècle plus tard, alors que la guerre est terminée, la piraterie, elle, est restée d'actualité ! Marika, jeune étudiante, mène une vie paisible avec sa mère quand deux inconnus se présentent à elle et lui révèlent qu'elle est la fille du défunt capitaine Gonzaemon. Elle seule (descendante directe du capitaine) peut reprendre le flambeau. Le Bentenmaru, légendaire vaisseau pirate, n'attend plus que Marika pour partir vers de nouvelles aventures…

Marika Kato, a third year student at Hakuho Girls' Academy, is a legitimate space pirate with a Letter of Marque. Between her studies, leading her school's space yacht club, working part time at Cafe Lamp, and being the captain of the space pirate ship Bentenmaru, Marika's days are very busy. One day, Marika gets a job to rob a high-class passenger ship, and she discovers that on the passenger list is Kanata Mugen (played by Asami Shimoda), a boy who owns a "galaxy pass." Thus, an adventure featuring a hyperspace race between pirates and one young boy begins.
