Épisode 1 - Welcome to Better Elevation

8 août 2014

Dave Wiskus is a designer who talks a lot. And now he's doing it in front of a camera. Some things he makes: Vesper: http://vesperapp.co Unprofessional: http://unprofesh.com Music: http://airplanemo.de The song in the background is "Can You Imagine": http://airplanemo.de/can-you-imagine/

Épisode 2 - Rock Stars

15 septembre 2014

"Rock star" is a Silicon Valley trope, but maybe there's some unintentional wisdom in the cliche. Software design walks the line between art and fashion, not unlike pop music. Épisode 3 - Copy Forward

In an age of perfect digital replicas, where's the line between inspiration and theft? Épisode 4 - Empathy in Design

21 octobre 2014

They say you can’t judge someone until you walk a mile in their shoes. But even then, how qualified are you? How much can we really know about a stranger’s experience, and how do we create for people who see the world very, very differently than we do? Épisode 5 - Humans, Interacting

10 novembre 2014

Conferences are for people. Technology is just our excuse to show up. A couple weeks ago I braved Penn Station and took the Amtrak to Philadelphia for a brand new conference called CocoaLove. It was ostensibly a technology event for people who design and develop software for Apple products, but the focus was very purposefully on the people, not the tech. My thanks to Curtis Herbert and everyone who made CocoaLove happen. And especially to the wonderful speakers and attendees who let me film them having fun. Let's do it all over again in 2015. http://cocoalove.org/

Épisode 6 - Podcast Intervention

17 novembre 2014

We live in a bold new age of media. The relatively inexpensive and ready availability of technology and bandwidth have given us all our very own recording studios, high-def cameras, and worldwide distribution. And all we seem to be doing with them is making more podcasts. I think it’s time for an intervention. Épisode 8 - A Brief History of User Interface

11 janvier 2015

Dave Wiskus explores the history of interaction and interface design, from the keyboard and mouse to multitouch, and beyond. Every day, people all over the world are clicking, tapping, typing, and touching and dragging things on glass screens. Our ability to use all this fancy technology with ease didn’t happen overnight. So how did we end up here? Épisode 9 - Designing for Humans — Accounting for Inclusivity and Accessibility

25 février 2015 - 4/5

The last hundred years or so have brought us a very, very long way. From the invention of the telephone and the automobile to telephones you can use to... order an automobile, technology has empowered and enabled not just gadgets and toys, but massive changes in the way we design, create, and produce objects of every size and shape. And there are roughly seven billion people on this planet right now. So... who is all this stuff for? Épisode 10 - The Future of User Interface

19 juin 2015

Right now we interact with our computers, phones, tablets and other devices in predictable ways. We click, we type, we touch, we drag — but as commonplace as these interfaces are, they’re all recent inventions, and they could very well be replaced before we know it. Sponsored by Harry’s. Épisode 11 - Casper (Advertisement)

20 juin 2015

I made this commercial for an upcoming episode. The Casper folks were kind enough to give us use of their showroom for filming. They greeted Pixel with a bag of treats and a bone. The whole thing was shot on an iPhone 6 Plus. http://casper.com/betterelevation
