A 34-year-old man is brought in after having punched his arm through a pub window. Handcuffed and accompanied by four police officers, his behaviour has medical staff fearing for the wellbeing of other patients. Matron Kat Henry deals with a flirtatious patient who has cut his head after a night out on the town and is determined to leave the hospital without treatment.

A 41-year-old patient is escorted off the premises of Hull Royal Infirmary after verbally abusing a receptionist in the waiting room, but is allowed back into the hospital to have his hand treated after calming down. In resus, Dr Jeremy Osman and a full trauma team attempt to save the life of 18-year-old Jack, who has severe injuries after falling off his scooter at high speed.

The hospital security team is called to reception after a suspected drug user is found passed out on the floor, while ex-factory worker Claude is determined to discharge himself after a bang on the head. Sixty-eight-year-old former fire fighter Stephen is brought in after passing out at home, and blood tests reveal that he has sepsis, an infection that causes more deaths than cancer.

Doctors are concerned that his behaviour could be as a result of a serious head injury. Doctor Andrew administers morphine to help a woman in agony, but the medics grow worried when her screams turn to silence.

Simon is rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being thrown off his horse and cart at high speed, and an initial CT scan reveals the 73-year-old has multiple broken bones.

In resus, a patient's life hangs in the balance as the team assess the extent of a serious brain bleed, which could be life-altering, while a 17-year-old arrives after injuring his ankle at a skate park.

After being thrown from his motorbike in a road traffic collision, 19-year-old Callum arrives in resus by ambulance, while nine-year-old Kayden is in the paediatrics department with a broken leg after falling off his scooter.

In minors, 68-year-old Roger has managed to accidentally swallow disinfectant and is worried he's caused serious internal damage, while a team tries to revive a patient who is having a cardiac arrest.

A woman arrives by air ambulance after falling 30ft off a castle wall and is rushed to the CT scanner to check for any life-threatening internal injuries, while a 68-year-old man in Minors is losing a lot of blood after cutting his hand on a broken glass at home. Dr Ibraheem treats a 25-year-old who has had a nasty accident while out walking his dog, with X-rays showing that he has ripped his shoulder out of joint.

After becoming involved in an altercation a young man suffers a gash on his forehead which nurse Ayaan treats, sending him for an in-depth cranial examination. In Rotherham, Doctor Bethany sees to a patient with and neck injuries due to a car crash on a country road. At the North Middlesex University Hospital police bring in a patient who is under arrest, staying with him while he is being triaged to ensure the safety of staff. In Tunbridge Wells as 85-year-old Mo injures her wrist after having a fall, X-rays reveal that her wrist is fractured meaning a lengthy recovery for Mo. Plus, towards the end of the nightshift in Rotherham an unresponsive man is brought into resus by paramedics. Doctor Ed and Nurse Gemma must work fast to stabilise the patient, suspecting he is a diabetic and has suffered a stroke.

The patient is agitated but Dr Alex's primary concern is spinal damage and brain injury. They transfer the patient to resus just in time to intercept a seizure. Time is critical but this patient's behaviour is getting in the way of a life-saving brain scan.

Language is a barrier but by a stroke of luck, Advanced Clinical Practitioner Albena translates. The patient is incoherent, threatening, and is a risk to others, so security stand close until his suspected psychosis can be managed.
